Edit: My comments below were about the original video of the fireworks only. The extended video with flying over crowds of people is not OK with me. Special equipment with safety measures are needed to provide safety in case of sUAS failure.

That was the most creative use of a multirotor I've ever seen! Absolutely beautiful video. Multirotors have given people a new way to explore our world. Sadly, the FAA wants to take this new capability away from Americans. I guess they would rather the rest of the world pass us by again on new technology. Very sad as we recently celebrated our independence from King George III or England's tyranny, we now find our own government on the brink of surpassing his tyranny by regulating RC out off existence.

I see nothing wrong with that. Looks like an experience only a quad with a camera can give. Flying over water so if it gets shot down, SPLASH.

Andrea Bocelli is anything but horrible! He happens to be one of the best opera singers alive today. Even if you don't have an appreciation for opera, respect the artist, or get some culture.

Regarding the link provided by revmix, it was very disappointing to see that Forbes allowed Greg McNeal to write that article. Greg McNeal is an associate professor of law at Pepperdine University. He is clueless about the safety of model aviation. He acts like some expert on RC, model aircraft, multirotors, sUAS, etc., yet he is not involved in the hobby or use any of the equipment at all from what I can gather. His big claim to fame as an "expert" is that he got a $165K grant from the Carthage Foundation to investigate the legality of using military drones for the targeted killing of civilians. Unfortunately, this clown is now using his limited knowledge to act like some sort of expert on the safety of RC modeling and civilian use of sUAS. McNeal is not an engineer, scientist or any other type of individual who may possess the type of technical knowledge to make the claims he does. He should stop trying to act like the definitive expert on what is safe and unsafe when it comes to things that fly. The uninformed unfortunately believe the misguided information that spews from his mouth. He reminds me of the tobacco industry lobbyists who, with a straight face, told Congress there was no evidence that linked tobacco use with causing cancer. He appears to be a FAA hired gun used to bend the ear of Congress against our hobby.

That video looks like the Detroit river fireworks filmed from the Canadian side.

There were manned aircraft in the area filming the fireworks
. . . but they kept their distance.

What I want to know is what equipment was that.
The camera stabilization was excellent!

I like this video. Like was said, it does not endanger anyone. Worst that could have happened was the quad shot down.Team Mikado, Team Revolectrix, KBDD Team Pilot

I watched Motorweek on the TV at lunchtime, and the shadow of a quad could plainly be seen on the ground in the report of a Porsche.

I guess if its illegal, nobody told Motorweek

Peter, it may not have been video recorded in the USA. Camera equipped sUAS are being used all over the world in sporting events, motorsports and advertising. Think back to the Sochi Olympic Games. A hexacopter was used to provide video at the start/take-off of the ski jumping event. I believe many other events were captured with a sUAS too.

Flying a Muli-Rotor (not a drone) over a populated city and over the heads of pedestrians is unsafe and why regulations should be in place.
