ESC / motor noise
So I have a lepton and I have a hacker 900kv motor and an eflite power25 1000kv motor, and I have an align 70amp esc and a castle phoenix60(with a 10a bec). I initially started with the castle esc and the hacker motor and the motor made a terrible whine noise at "higher" RPMs. I also considered this might be mechanical noise so I checked every bearing in the heli and they are all silky smooth and the heli flies perfect. So I decided to get the eflite motor which gave the same results. I tried 8khz and 16khz medium and high timing in the phoenix with no real change in noise. So I then took the time to learn the beep beep programming in the align70 and gave that a try and the noise is less than what it was with the castle but still there.

Has anybody else run into this and found something that worked? One thing I thought of that I haven't tried is the outrunner mode in the castle.

PWM Formula
3.7V per cell x Kv x pole count / 20 = xxKhz.

Your motor is 14 poles.

Not knowing your batts voltage, you could possibly be over motor limitations of 18k max rpm.

How's motor temps?

I'm running 5s around 80% throttle, so that should be roughly 15,000RPM, the whine noise starts around 65-70% based on when I switch to low-idle to land. The motor comes down around 110F(trying to measure the coils but probably more of the base).

The eflite manual I believe shows 12 poles, 12 or 14 not sure that makes much difference.

Pistol_Pete,

Where did you find the RPM limit?

In the castle esc I tried outrummer mode and didn't make any difference, I also tried 24khz for fun and there was also no change and this caused the esc to get warm. This is a bit frustrating because the heli flies very nice and I'm a bit concerned I would damage the motor if I keep flying it like this.

So I read quite a bit about timing being out and esc/motor being out of sync and tried at least 10 different pwm and timing combinations with the CC esc none seem to make a difference using set RPM setting at 2800rpm. At 2600 RPM the noise is nearly gone and I discovered at 2900rpm the noise is nearly gone. At 2800rpm with either the CC esc or the align esc I seem to be experiencing some kind of harmonic phenomenon is my conclusion.
