what batterie for trex 500 ??
my 500 is currently setup to run dual 3 cell witch seems like a good idea to me...actually that is one of the main reasons I bought this particular 500 i already have a bunch of 3cell bats for my 450.s... first thing i noticed about the 6cells was the price 200$ a pop lol wow...2nd is the weight 796 grams compared to the 3 cell 151 grams each i don't mind the investment my question is it worth it ?

thanks
jim

There is no reason that you have to change to a single battery except for ease of handling... one battery is easier then 2!!

Also no reason to be paying $200 for a 6s pack...there are several GOOD COMPANIES to choose from..

Check these out.. and depending on your type flying you can use either the 30c or the 40c... also the weight difference varies by how many MAH packs you choose... check out the standard series 6s 2650 (not the competition series, unless you are a throw down hard 3 D pilot!!!) I have been flying these now for 4 years, and still have and run all but one pack that got thrown out during a heli ooop's

$200 sounds real steep, I run Pulse 3000/45c in my Trex 500, they are $85. Weight is 480 grams. I have run many of the cheaper batteries, the Pulse (or equivalent) seem to hold up better over many charges.Tom

Are you comparing the 3S to 6S of EQUAL capacity as well as C rating?

Seems to me two 3S will weight more than one 6S due to extra wire and connector PLUS the series connector.

EDited
Using Doormans link, TWO 3S 2200mA 45C weights in at 380grams vs 360grams for ONE 6S. Interesting enought the price is exactly double.

Going 6S seems the "weight" to go.

it is very simple:
with two 3S batteries,
either you set them in series, and you double the voltage
or, you set them in parallel, and you double the capacity

voltage is RPM,
capacity is endurance

you will find out, step by step

ps: on a 500, it is not 3S, it is 6S, affirmatively (given the common market motors and associated KV)

I think just running one 6s pack would much simpler. I use the Glacier 2600 pack in my Trex 500. I get them from BuddyRc for $50. I'm getting 10 minutes of easy sport flying.

As others have pointed out, I do not think you are comparing apples to apples. Similar C rating and similar capacities, one 6S will weigh less than two 3S. Also, the price you are quoting must be for a 5000 mAh pack, not the smaller packs you would need.Compass 7HV, Trex 550E

If you get the 550, look for sales on the Pulse Ultra 6S 45C 5000mAh packs - they work great on the 550.Compass 7HV, Trex 550E

Tail servo reversing should be an easy fix to do in the radio.Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!
