Ask A Physicist To Speak At Your Funeral
Not sure if this has been posted on here before. It popped up on my Facebook feed and I thought some of those on here who live in the realm of reality might enjoy it.

From the I F*#?ing love science webpage.

You want a physicist to speak at your funeral. You want the physicist to talk to your grieving family about the conservation of energy, so they will understand that your energy has not died. You want the physicist to remind your sobbing mother about the first law of thermodynamics; that no energy is created in the universe and none is destroyed. You want your mother to know that all your energy, ever vibration, every BTU of heat, every wave of every particle that was her beloved child remains with her in this world. You want the physicist to tell your weeping father that amid the energies of the cosmos, you gave as good as you got.

And at one point, you'd hope that the physicist would step down from the pulpit and walk to your brokenhearted spouse there in the pew and tell him that all the photons that ever bounced off your face, all the particles whose paths were interrupted by your smile, by the touch of your hair, hundreds of trillions of particles, have raced off you like children, their ways forever changed by you. And as your widow rocks in the arms of a loving family, may the physicist let her know that all the photons that bounced from you were gathered in the particle detectors that are her eyes, that those photons created within her constellations of electromagnetically charged neurons whose energy will go on forever.

And the physicist will remind the congregation of how much of all our energy is given off as heat. There may be a few fanning themselves with their programs as he says it. And he will tell them that the warmth that flowed through you in life is still here, still part of all that we are, even as we who mourn continue in the heat of our own lives.

And you'll want the physicist to explain to those who loved you that they need not have faith; indeed, they should not have faith. Let them know that they can measure, that scientists have measured precisely the conservation of energy and found it accurate, verifiable and consistent across space and time. You can hope your family will examine the evidence and satisfy themselves that the science is sound and that they'll be comforted to know your energy is still around. According to the law of the conservation of energy, not a bit of you is gone. You're just less orderly.

While all of that may be sad, the law is still true. Physics do not necessarily promote happiness, nor is it to calm the nerves of those affected by the transformation of energy.

Sounds like someone is taking their anger out on something they cant change. Very misdirected...

Hogster:
OR have a Born Again SPIRIT of the Knowing Pastor
speak at your funeral...

Dear ones we know that the wages of sin is death, and
this handed down to us from Eve and Adam in their
original sin. But worry not - When God Created the
Universe, He already had a PLAN in place to redeem
some of His Children from the power of Death.

His plan was so perfect. It was to cost us nothing.
It was FREE to humanity. A Glorious Gift of Divine Grace!

Some of you here know, as you cry for little Aunt Mary
whose body will be interred this afternoon; that she
was a believing recipient of the GIFT. She has taken
the Hand of God's Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, The Savior.

At the proper time, she, and all the other believing
children of The Living God will be brought back to life
in an environment where sin will no longer rule. Because
those who have DIED with CHRIST have indeed DIED to SIN.

So in conclusion, as we say goodbye to Aunt Mary, please
shed a tear in missing her presence about us today on
the earth; but remember she will RISE again at the last day.

Just as Our Wonderful and Majestic Creator has promised
in HIS WORD.

If today, your heart has not yet been enabled to receive
the FREE GIFT OF GRACE from God, Today is the day
of Your Salvation. Take His Hand, "Save me Jesus."

It is Free to all who will but Believe THE BIBLE.

Please take this warning to heart: Should you reject
the Free GIFT of Salvation God offers you by dying
in your place - you will then have to die in your place.

Jesus Is God. <<Note Red Letters!

(What!!! - Did ya want a bigger God? One YOU could
call to manipulate to your own ends?)

Good Bye Aunt Mary, we will miss you, and we look
to the future where we will see each other again,
by THE GRACE OF GOD. He is Awesome, He is Holy, He
is Perfect. He loves us. And as a FATHER He has
a very special place reserved in His Heart
for His Redeemed Children.

WISE MEN STILL FOLLOW HIM.

Amen.

Nice article.

When I was an engineering student taking an advanced course of thermodynamics, I ran across this paragraph in the middle of my text book:

Quite obviously it is impossible to give conclusive answers to these questions on the basis of the second law of thermodynamics alone. However, the authors see the second law of thermodynamics as man's description of the prior and continuing work of a creator, who also holds the answer to the future destiny of man and the universe.

Personally I've lived a happier life because of my faith in our Christian God. I think of the bible as an instruction manual and I do what I can to apply what I've learned to be a better person.

Just my personal beliefs, yours may vary.

I've meet many people in my life, and the Christians seem just a bit happier than normal folks.

If I had one wish its that more people would actually pick up a bible and read it once in a while rather than hear the word second hand and risk some of the messages getting lost.

We all walk very similar paths. To me it seems the ones who learn from others mistakes do far better in life than the ones who insist on learning by themselves.

rander1I'm not sure why and how you think the writer is angry. Maybe you'll elaborate.

Jerry K You're in the off topic section of a RC Helicopter forum obviously your time is of little to no value so no you cannot have them back. Sorry

helicopter Of course if you are a person of faith you might go that route. Surly a Muslim would do their traditional thing same with a Jew etc. Now I mean no disrespect to you when I say this but the difference between the article I posted and the faiths (All of them) is this everything in that article is true and verifiable. Not one of the faith can claim the same.

antja I agree what Helicopter wrote was but it's what he believes and no matter how much overwhelming evidence you show him he will continue to believe his book.

dilberteinstein The people that claim the 2nd law of thermodynamics shows evidence of a creator have been shown to be ignorant of the other laws of thermodynamics. Their claims have been thoroughly debunked.

kavic5150 It may well be true that you have lived a happier life because of your faith. In reality you can't go back and live your life again so you'll never experience life as anything else. For myself I have been happier since becoming a free thinker and being able to question anything and accepting things for what they are.

I find it funny that you refer to Christians as being happier than normal folks... Would you mind telling me what you think normal is? I too have found that many Christians seem happier I personally think it's because they are almost totally oblivious to reality.

By the way I've read it or at least enough of it to answer my questions I agree with Penn Jillette. You say it's an instruction manual I imagine you are far more moral and have decided what parts to keep and what parts to ignore.

Rudy Do you have it in your will that you just want to be put in a dumpster when dead? Let's be honest a funeral is more for family and friends then for the one in the box.

turboomni & Wave Thanks guys I've met different people over time who struggle with death and at times some still struggling with the loss of a loved one sometimes many years ago one a person of faith. I've found that for some people the answers from science offer more comfort and understanding then well wishful thinking. I personally find the fact we are made of star stuff and will again be star stuff incredibly beautiful. And that out understanding of the universe helps me to understand what a privilege it is to exist now when we can understand it to the degree that we can.

Yep, science is exciting and hopeful.

It's a shame it scares so many people into feeling insignificant and small.

My reality is easy, and without the accompanying irrationality
a person who actually believes we came here to earth as a
result of an explosion 15 some billion years ago.

No, I believe in A Creator God.

I believe HE grants a SOUL to the Baby in the womb
at the proper time. At conception when the two cells
become ONE - or perhaps at the heart beat.

Once a SOUL we are ETERNAL.

We never existed before, but now we do exist.

Our body may fail, but the SOUL will go on.

At the Power and Authority of the Greatest One.

We, who FIND GOD are destined to LIVE forever WITH HIM,
in the manner HE shall design and prescribe, and those
who think they already know it all - will, at the end
of this life, find they did not.

But to Love God NOW is a marvelous way to live!

And in so doing He promises a Future beyond our present
capability to even imagine.

He has given us HIS PROMISE in His Book, The Holy Bible.

He has shown us through the ages of time, and the prophetic
announcements of His Coming to Earth to save some; and
dying in our place so that we could be JUSTLY forgiven
of the very thing that is causal to our death - SIN.

The HOPE we have in the WORD is the Resurrection
from the dead. He proved it possible with His SON.

We who LOOK to HIM become His Sons by Grace Through Faith
Adopted into His Family to become His Son.

His Love for us is so GREAT that He was willing
to die so that we could live.

Now we should die so that HE CAN LIVE IN US. Eternally.

This is The Message of the Great Love Letter, The Word.

Should you, the reader continue to deny the Creator,
you may not find Him. Now or Ever.

WISE MEN STILL FOLLOW HIM.

May I mention That I love science. For in learning how
everything is made and goes together, I can actually
SEE the Invisible Hand of the Living God.

In so doing - I love Him, and Worship Him for such
kindness, grace, and mercy. Amen brothers Amen.
