ALIGN GPRO under $200
I just received an email marketing the new ALIGN GPRO for sale under $200.00. I downloaded the software on my tablet and it looks really good. Hopefully it is a nice unit. I'm debating if I should purchase one to try it out....

If anyone does please post your experiences.

TIA,
Andy

I found it for $220 and found the Bluetooth module is $42.99. I thought they had been talking about having a Bluetooth module for the 3GX for a long time. I wonder if they are going to ever release an app and Bluetooth module for it.

I found the app for my iphone and loaded it onto my phone but can't really see much without having it connected to a gpro and I don't have one.

I don't see why this current one can be backward compatible to 3gx. It looks like its using the same connector for data.

That's what I was thinking but will the software on the phones work with the older 3GX?

Before I spend a dime on another piece of Align Electronic hardware someone that knows a lot more than I do about this stuff is going to have to show me how well it works. I've been snookered too many times with Align electronics and the only thing that they make that has exceeded my expectations is their cheesy governor which BTW works very well.

I refuse to be impressed with software, videos or anything other than real world show me.

I read a good post yesterday where people where bashing Blade products. I have my fair share of problem models don't get me wrong but one of the Blade reps answered the thread with "this is only a hobby and I can't belive how people get so upset over a model". I haven't found a perfect piece of gear yet and don't expect to. I've been in this hobby for a few years now and I have to admit Align has consistantly contributed to this hobby.

I see; that's where we differ a bit. IMHO, Align is a business, they are in business for profit, it's what they do. Blade is in business to make money. When people complain about products businesses can do several things. One thing they can do is learn from the complaints, evaluate the issues and then respond with revisions to the product. OTOH businesses can choose to dig in their heels and say their products are fine and do nothing. In each case Blade and Align have chosen to improve their products because of customer feedback.

In the case of Aligns new GPro, since I have both the 3G and 3GX, before I spend one more dime on Align products they need to demonstrate the kind of competence that other FBL manufacturers are currently capable of showing in their products. I think we can all agree that there is a entire list of competent FBL controllers that one could put in their model and have very good success with. Unfortunately, Align is no where on that list with either of their earlier products. In light of that fact the only thing that they can do is show me how competent this new product is by having their sponsored pilots fly the product for an extended period of time and possibly win an event or two with it. I fly a lot of their stuff like the T600N and T700N, both good products but their electronics are on the "show me" list.

Thx for sharing. I can't wait for the naysayers and their "He can make any FBL unit look good"

I am currently finishing up another project and when finished I'd like to try this unit out. I like their software interface which runs on my tablet. I also heard that it's blue tooth enabled(I did not verify) and if it is it will be easy too change settings at the field.

Thx again,
Andy

You are welcome. Prospective users need to see that it can be made to work and I hope they can see that by the way Duncan flies.

I don't know how easy it is to hide defficiencies in a FBL controller, only Duncan can tell us what he really thinks of it.

This is all very cool for sure. But if I was going to spend $220 at this point I would throw on a BeastX. On my 550e I think I am just going to upgrade to 3GX 5.0 and call it good.

But, the Bluetooth app is really killer.

I bought a NIB GPro last night on Ebay, just under $130 shipped from Colorado.

I am going to give it a try.

The 3GX with V5.0 is actually very nice. I currently have 11 helis flying on the 3GX/V5.0, ranging in size from a couple of 250's up to a 700 Nitro Pro, with about everything in-between.

I suspect I'll put the GPro on my Logo 550SX to check it out.

I haven't gotten the Bluetooth adapter, will probably get around to it later on.

I'll report back as I get it set up and begin to check it out.

That's awesome given your experience with the 3gx and 3g I'd love to hear what you think about the GPro.

Hey.

The Gpro is very good, it's a much better system than the 3G and 3GX. The latter worked well assuming you knew how to set them up properly.
While the Gpro still demands a good bench setup, the PC software is more intuitive and easy to follow and so eliminates setup issues.

Flight feel is very Vbar'ish, I've gone from being all Vbar to having the Gpro on my new 550L and it feels good. I was worried to start with, but after the first flight on the Gpro I was glad I decided to give it a go instead of going Vbar off the building bench.
The overall feel gives you confidence to try that new manoeuvre, safe in the knowledge that the machine is being held nicely throughout by the FBL unit and you only have to concentrate on the stick inputs.

In higher winds the hold and feel is still very good and secure.
The tail gyro seems nice to, on my old 550/vbar it's tail was a little whippy. On this 550L with Gpro the tail is more consistent through piro manouvers, stops in piro reversals seem nice and smooth also.

There had been some team members mentioning a tail bounce after right tail rotor inputs and an elevator bounce, but I'm yet to see it on my setup.
