Friend has a scale Hughes 500 with a 5 blade head.
Speed controller does not like 12/112 gear ratio.
Anyone make a 14 tooth pinion for a 5mm shaft?
Mechanics are Align 600e.

Should we assume that it is an older 600e and therefore Mod 0.7 ?

I would be thinking that unless you have a low kV motor, a 14T is too big, and your headspeed will be too high for a 5 blade 600.

May be an older airframe but it has the Mod 1 Slant Gear combo in it.
A complete gear set change may be needed or a different motor or even a different speed controller from the 80A Castle.

What is the problem ? Is the ESC getting hot because it is throttling too much ?

If so, the only speeed controllers that would fare better would probably be ESCs with active freewheeling like Kontronics. At about $400 it would certainly be cheaper to change gears.

Try KDE hub with a Trex 700 164T Mod 0.7 main gear and a 13T pinion. With a 5mm motor shaft you could probably even try a 12T pinion. The conversion would cost you less than $50.

The next cheapest option would be a slower motor (not sure what you have now ?), but that would cost $150+ I guess.
