I have read research that neurons and nerves have a sheathe around them when you're born that actually makes the signals go faster and as we age, that sheathing deteriorates. Meaning that as we get older, we get slower.

Or to put it another way,
the best is when we're born . . . and it's all down hill from there.

Well . . .

Babies are born withOUT the sheath (myelin sheath). The sheath acts like insulation on a wire, so before it develops, the impulses jump across wires (axons)....that's why babies move like they are drunk. Alcohol is thought to permeate the myelin sheath and make it less insulating. That's why drunk people have the coordination of babies. Some folks do get demyelination disease (I.e. Multiple sclerosis) and it is very sad. But yeah, I feel old too lol.

What about the speed degradation as you get older ?

. . . that was the point I was trying to make.

Possibly. It is because there is so much information stored that it takes longer to resolve all of the stimulus that is present (The brain resolves all inputs using an algorithm that compares ALL previous situations, looking for a match. If a match is found, the results are analyzed also. If the result was positive, the same response is usually taken. Since there are lot more scenarios to analyze as we get older, this takes longer to complete!

Fear not gentlemen. Turns out those mylin shieths can be repaired. Healthy diet including Avacado, and various other items.... Avoiding solvents... can do a lot to reverse the damage. reportedly adding a small amount of Coconut oil helps slow down alshiemers as well....

Most of us do not suffer from "Old-Timers" disease, and coconut oil doesn't do anything but add excessive calories. I found that increasing the quantity of animal protein to the diet DOES slow down the aging process (The body CANNOT properly use vegetable protein to make repairs to the body).

Kids are great aren't they? Thing is they still need geezers like us to write the CNC programs to make the yo yo's so maybe they won't kill us off too fast.

Actually there are many, many, many compounds that improve cognitive function and offer neuroprotective benefits.

Your average doctor will not tell you about 95% of them. They work for big pharma, and as such will only prescribe the expensive ones with side effects.

They do not do animal testing these days.....They do human testing.
