I guess my question is why? The only answer that I can come up with is...Because you can. I'd like to see this thing fly in idle up 2

I think youre on to something. I just checked out the speed cup rules. I saw nothing that limits the number of motors that you can have on an electric heli. The only limits seem to be on battery size and voltage. Interesting.... Maybe I'll get to see this fly in idle up 2 at the speed cup after all.

Maybe to keep the frame narrow? Instead of a motor twice the width and a main gear to match.

Good idea but not likely on that model as the main gear is still too wide. I wonder if possible to keep the two in lockstep or is most likely a transmission between the two motors required?

I wonder how the two esc and motors will react to each other. How could they be synchronized, or is this not even a concern?

Two words: Speed cup.
more two words: hell no,

much heavier,
not efficient,
possibly cheaper (than one monster Pyro 800 comp),
battery taxing
WOW factor

The setup could work in utility scenarios like very large utility heli, but I would think a larger single motor option would always be simpler, more efficient solution.

A while back Haker developed a gearbox to use multiple motors on giant scale planks. I bet each motor had a one way bearing to avoid interactions.

They self regulate so they do not need any synchronization. There are some electric cars that has a motor on each wheel which eliminates the need for the differential gear box. You can event drive them from the same ESC.
