I just have to say how much fun and impressed I am with this new E550 Thunder Tiger has released.

Most of the work is already done, so their is very little to assemble. What I have taken apart, I found plenty of locktite applied and built well. I love that it has a belt tail and uses parts that have been proven for years and years.

I have been flying this after work running through 6 packs every evening for the last 2 weeks. Here in Phoenix its 110 degrees in the evenings (its a dry heat and I have been flying them back to back since its so easy to change packs with out taking the canopy off. The motor and speed control are in the back getting lots of air to stay cool.

I am using 6S 5000's at 40C flying 5 min. Nothing comes down hot, maybe luke warm. Most of the time the battery checker says 40% left depending how much I beat on it. The main gear to motor is a little noisy at first, but wears in quickly and quiets down. It is light in the air and big enough to easily see and handle a good amount of wind. The Castle ESC is great, I just soldered my EC5 connector on, and set the headspeeds via the gov feature.

If your looking for a good flying heli, I recommend this one easily.

Happy flying!

Thanks for the review! I'm looking at one of these as a second heli, now that I'm kind of hooked on the Thunder Tiger helis. Seems like a heck of a deal for an ARF 550 heli!

It is a solid controller. I have never used one before so their was a learning curve to get things going. I am using Futaba, so a simple Sbus wire connecting them and that part is done. The book the model comes with has great pictures showing where all the wires go and from what part of the heli.

The touch screen was a little weird getting used to, but handy since it was all right there to access and change as you wanted. I flew with the GT for a week, and for my own comfort I switched to the CGY-750 since that is what I have on just about everything. Their was nothing wrong with the GT, I think its me being lazy and not wanting to learn a new FBL system.

I have read quite a few people don't like the color scheme with the yellow, and I agree. But it has grown on me and frankly I don't spend to much time looking at it because its up in the air flying and hardly notice anyway. It is the same as the X50 canopy's if you have one of those to put on, or order up the optional blue scheme sticker. I would rather spend the money on batteries or spare parts

Works a lot better if you get the dongle so you can use PC to program or look at whats going on.

I'm simply thrilled with my 550. Its price point calms the nerves when trying out new manuevers, and its size is large enough to fly much like a big model and be seen at reasonable altitude. The mechanics are brain dead simple and utterly reliable. I can say unequivocally that it is about the most fun in a helicopter that I have had in a long time. Honest to gosh that's the truth guys. It's just a ton of fun to fly.

I agree completely Dr. Ben

This is one model you just concentrate on flying and learning and perfecting maneuvers. It really is just plug and play over and over.

Weighed mine today. Completely ready to fly with 6S 5000 pack is just a bit over 7 pounds. Flies lightly, is light .

I have had mine for over a month now and close to 100 flights so far.
No crashes, but I have been trying new things up high and get disoriented once in a while. With the height, I am able to recover and continue on.

I have upped the pitch and cyclic for a more aggressive flight. The power is still very good. I had them set lower so I could concentrate on my basics and get comfortable with them.
