Redskins' attorney: 'We've seen this story before'

By Chicago Tribune June 19, 2014

We've seen this story before. And just like last time, today's ruling will have no effect at all on the team's ownership of and right to use the Redskins name and logo," Bob Raskopf, trademark attorney for the Washington Redskins, said in a statement Tuesday.

"We are confident we will prevail once again, and that the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board's divided ruling will be overturned on appeal.

"This case is no different than an earlier case, where the Board cancelled the Redskins' trademark registrations, and where a federal district court disagreed and reversed the Board."

He said the team will "of course" appeal the ruling.

"This ruling ... simply addresses the team's federal trademark registrations, and the team will continue to own and be able to protect its marks without the registrations," he said. "The registrations will remain effective while the case is on appeal."

He continued: "It is astounding that the petitioners did not submit any evidence regarding the Native American population during the relevant time frame, nor did they introduce any evidence or argument as to what comprises a substantial composite of that population thereby leaving it to the majority to make petitioner's case have some semblance of meaning.

"The evidence in the current claim is virtually identical to the evidence a federal judge decided was insufficient more than ten years ago. We expect the same ultimate outcome here."

This is just another distraction from a totally failed president.

It's so foolish, it simply will not white wash the failures.

One of the things that gets me about this whole deal is, if the name is so offensive why has it taken approximately 90 years to figure that out?
From just basic research the team started around 1930 with the mascot of Braves.
The name was changed to Redskins in 1932 or 33 in honor of one of the coaches, who supposedly had Sioux blood in his veins.

We need a face palm smiley.

If the Redskins lose their trademark it would be a great time for them to move to LA! They could change their name to the LA Gang Bangers!

I wonder how that would play for the politicians behind all of this?

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about!

Me personally, I am absolutely offended by the team name. Makes me want to puke. They need to get rid of the Washington part before I will ever watch another one of their games.

What they thought was a advantage - and assumed ----will be a Epic Humanitarian disaster. OBAMA will get his CRISIS besides the Global One he created.

This NATION has DONE THIS BEFORE : They erased it - Bit Different but the result will be the same.

The Washington Redskins name controversy involves the name and logo of the National Football League (NFL) franchise ..... Mark Dayton described the name as "antiquated, offensive and racist".

its a derogatory wording and shouldn't be use you all don't like to be double standard I guess
just move on for I don't see the bashing of the current Admin for this crap.

I was waiting on some honey but there aren't no Queen bee,

It may look to be just another foolish conquest by this Obama/Reid administration to keep the racial flames burning for their own interest, but there is more to it. Remember there is not one single complaint about the Redskins name.http://www.washingtontimes.com/news...nts-patent-off/ "(Redskins name drew no public complaints, patent offices reveals.)"

(((The way I see it, this is nothing more than a Very Long Term (LAND GRAB) by the Scumbags like Reid and others.)))

I know, your thinking what the F^#$ ya talking about. One thing you have to understand is how these Dirty Democrats work. You know by making you think their on your side.

As American's, I think we all have great respect and look-up to the Native Americans. Enough so the we like to name our be-loved sport team and special weapons after them. How can this be a racial issue with American Indians? I never seen Indians protesting about a Cleveland Indians game or a tomahawk cruise missile. Only lowlife democrats with a agenda.

I hope the Indians will wake up and see that the loving and caring liberal's are attempting to completely steal what is left of the American Indian Sacred Lands by eliminating them in the public minds.

Someone please tell me Harry Reid gives a sh!t about the Indians.

Cherokee, Sioux, Apache, etc are indigenous tribal names. Redskin is not of native American origin, it is a pejorative word developed by Anglo settlers to describe Native Americans. There is a huge difference between the two.

I don't know how you guys manage to twist this dialogue into another anti Obama rant.
