I did search for this but didn't get results I was looking for. I have Trex 700N LE and want to upgrade the tail control rod from the music wire to carbon rod. I been searching on the web for the correct rod length. I have narrowed it down to either the 760mm or 778mm. I was trying to figure out the exact length of the music wire used presently. I guess i could just take it off and measure it. But I thought some might know and just tell me which one is the correct length?

I am assuming you're using the stock boom that came with the LE model.

In that case, the shorter Align carbon rod is the correct size. The longer one is only if you are using the New long boom (marked 700N DFC on side).

Thanks, I was looking at the trex 700 LE manual and it looks like I need the 778mm rod. As this is the length of the music wire rod the LE kit uses. I went ahead a order it. If thats not right. I been wrong before. That's what I like about this hobby. You never stop learning!!

The correct Align Carbon rod for the LE is this:

http://www.alignrcusa.com/index.php...roducts_id=2138

The new 700N DFC comes stock with the longer boom, and requires the longer carbon pushrod. http://www.alignrcusa.com/index.php...roducts_id=2585

I am not disagreeing with you on this. But the manual that came with my kit says the stock music wire is 778 mm. So how can the 760mm be the correct length? I went out and measure my spare boom that came in the kit and it is 785mm. I'll know for sure by Friday. The part will be here then. I went out and measure the control rod on there now and it measure at least 30 1/2 inches long. Converted to mm is 774mm. I looked at the electric version of the 700 and it does show the control rod being 760mm. But wondering if this is not the v1 version of the 700. I will know Friday for sure.

The stock boom is 785mm and the 760mm carbon rod is to be used with that boom. The 700N DFC boom is 800mm and the 778mm carbon rod is to be used with that boom.

That is exactly what you need. 760mm carbon rod for stock boom and 778mm carbon rod for 700N DFC boom.

Well then all I got to say on that is Align manuals need to be updated with the correct info. Because thats not what they are telling me. I have looked in every align manual I can find and they all say pretty much the same thing. No where can I find any info on a 760mm control rod. Show me a link that supports that!

I purchased the trex 700 upgrade boom that is 800mm a while back. So I will have to check it out. It is currently hanging on my wall in my hobby shed.

Ok... Picture with part # H70073A (760mm) is compatible with the original 700 Nitro Pro / LE, 700E v1, v2 & Pro boom which is 785mm. The other picture with part # H7NT005XXW (778mm) will work only with the extended tail boom which is 800mm.

If you bought the 778mm rod for a it will not fit correctly, promise

Well those are nice drawings. But there not very convincing. I went to align website and look at every manual they have for the trex 700. No where in any of the manuals could I find that 760mm rod used. I agree that you are right, but the trex 700 manuals must be written with incorrect info. For new comer this would be very confusing. Also your drawing for the 760mm control rod indicates only the 700e. Surely you can understand my reasoning. I am only going off what the trex 700 manuals show! Show me the manual that shows the dimensions for the 760mm. I can't seem to find one. I am not disputing what you guys say! I just stating the facts as they appear in the Trex 700 manuals.

Since the trex 700 dfc uses a longer boom. What are the benefits of the longer boom? And would it make since to upgrade to it. Plus also needing a longer torque tube! cost wise it would be less expensive to just order the smaller control rod.

I will agree that Align has not updated the 700N manual in quite some time but the smaller length rod is the one that you need, I'm not going to argue this any further it's kind of pointless. I cannot show you in the 700 Nitro LE manual because the carbon rod was not out when they created that manual and they haven't updated it to reflect that it will fit.

And I didn't draw those diagrams those are directly from alignrcusa parts finder system which is available online.

The longer 700N DFC boom can be used if you want to swing larger blades, I've hit tails off on the regular size boom with Edge 713 blades years ago. With the longer boom it allows more clearance to the tail blades allowing you to run a longer blade.

You don't need to follow what I'm stating here but honestly I'm speaking from personal experience on my Nitros before I went with the 700N DFC boom I had the standard KIT boom with the SHORTER carbon rod.

Since converting to the 700N DFC boom I had to go with the LONGER carbon rod. Good luck in your findings..

Thank you for the explanation! That explanation was a lot more convincing then anything you said previously!! Give yourself a pat on the back!! Looks like it time to place another order. I am currently using mavrik 690 flybarless blades. I built this 700 as a gasser! It has never seen nitro. I am using the BH Hanson 270 3d max engine. I am just a sport pilot! To old to learn 3D! lol.

Our flying field is at 5000 feet above sea level. I just don't know if this setup will support the longer blades and if I could tell any real difference in them. There's not to many experienced heli pilot out here in Western Colorado. So I have had to teach myself to fly. Thank god for sims. Except I did take some lessons from Todd Bennett a few years back. That help a lot!! Todd is an amazing instructor!! Thanks again for that awesome explanation!!
