V5.0 is now available for download. Has anyone tried it yet ?
I am happy with V3.1. My skill is not up to a level to appreciate any difference anyway

V5.0 works well.

If you decide to switch over, place the tail rotor gyro into Normal/Rate mode then hover your helicopter. Adjust the tail rotor linkage until you have no tendency to yaw left or right. Reset the travel limits if you had to adjust anything.

This is the only change I have had to make when upgrading from 3.1 to 5.0.

I have now upgraded 5 of my 10 setups, and all five are behaving well.

Is V5.0 with 2 DSMX satellites run in DSMx mode ?

V3.1 is running in DSM2 only. I just bought a DX9 and 2 DSMX sats. Now I am wondering I should update my 3GX to V5.0

DSMx support was introduced with V4.0, and continues with V5.0.

With satellites hooked up as your receivers, with V4.0/V5.0 installed, to bind in DSMx mode, you insert the binding plug on the bottom right horizontal connector, and when you apply power to the 3GX, you hold the button on top down momentarily. If you don't push the button while applying power, the unit will assume you want to bind in DSM2 mode.

Load the PC software and read about binding with satellites, as you also have options on how the failsafe will act -- based on when/how you exit the binding process.

3Gx Version 5
Just flew my Rave ENV with version 5 of the firmware yesterday.

Very pleased with it. My impression is that it is flybar like in it's feel of "momentum" with zero robotic behavior.

The tail has a nice dampening effect and is rock solid in high speed backward flight.

As always, the nitro engine governor is spot on and one of the best I've used.

Really, I'm no Align fan boy at all, but they've done a good job with the 3GX. I would not be at all surprised if pilots starting taking a second look at it and finding that they like it.

I have updated to V5.0
My motivation to update it is to hope that this version the heli won't tilted over itself after landing (while waiting for blade speed to slow down).
I really hope it won't happen again.

You need to be on top of the sticks as long as your head retains flying RPM (lift) whether or not the heli has a flybar or not.

Your best bet to keep your heli from doing as you describe is to bring it to a low hover, hit HOLD, and land by performing a "baby" autorotation. Using this technique you bleed off RPM and land. Some negative pitch as you touch down will also help till it spools down completely.

Software updates are no substitute for good technique.

My Trex 550E is using Version 2.0. Is there any real advantage to upgrading all the way to 5.0? I am a sport flyer who does occasional 3D.

I read of this technique. A guy in the club always does it when landing. I just don't have the courage to do it yet for fear of crashing. Maybe it is time to practice it.

Yes, you should definitely do it. Start low, about one foot high, then work up from there. As soon as you hit throttle hold, raise the collective and you will float down.
