I bought a used Trex 600E. Flies good, but the motor runs hot. It has way more power than I need for sport flying, so I'm wondering if I go to a smaller pinion will it unload the motor enough to make it run cooler?

I think the motor is a Turnigy T600 outrunner, the markings on the motor are worn, so all I can make out is 4030. The ESC is a Hobbywing Platinum Pro. Can't tell what amperage. Right now it has a 15 tooth pinion.

I'm running 6S.

I like to run a conservative head speed, and right now I'm running a flat line throttle curve at 75%. If I drop the pinion to take some of the load off the motor, and raise the curve to keep the same headspeed, will this allow the motor to run cooler?

It's either the 880kv motor or the 1100kv motor from Hobby King. You should be fine if you drop a tooth or two.

Ok, I've ordered both a 13 and 14 tooth pinion. I'm running about 12 degrees of pitch.

That's allot of pitch. Try reducing it if u don't use it. That will help also

Thanks, I'll back it down a few degrees. I only do sport flying, so I don't need a lot of power.
