I just picked up a gaui x5 and needed a good esc with a good governor. I heard this v3 esc had a great governor so I figured I'd try it out. I also picked it because I didn't feel like spending $350 on a kontronix. I've used a few castle esc and while I haven't had any problems with them and still use them in a couple other helis, I have friends who have had their birds go down because of either the esc or bec. So that's why no castle. I also didn't want the yge. I've used other hobbywing esc with good luck but the governors always sucked.
I'm just writing this to help out other members on a budget wanting a good esc at a great price.
I've had about 10 flights on it so far and I like it a lot more than any other esc I've used. It's easy to set up and Temps have not gone above 110 degrees. The governor works excellent and startup is super smooth. I'm using the built in bec because it's rated at 10a continuous. I usually use an external but I wanted to limit weight and wires and friends use the stock gaui bec. I figured if the stock held up this should be better.
Don't hesitate to buy it. This thing is well worth the money and cheap.
BTW I just bought one for a friend who has a 550 that he recently did a full kit rebuild because of a castle 20a external bec browning. After he replaced the bec with a Hercules he had about 15 flights until the esc, castle 100a esc burned up. Luckily no accident. He sent them both in and castle found them both to be bad and sent him new units. He doesn't want to fly with them and is going to sell them. We will see how his first flight with the v3 goes this weekend.
Thanks, happy flying.

Cool! Is this a low voltage ESC or high voltage?

I too have very good results with my Hobbywing/Tunigy HV120 ESC while using the Vbar gov. For $120 it works pretty aggressively, and will out-fly me for a very long time. To each his own, right?

It's low voltage. Up to 6 cell. Still working great. I have 13.5 degrees of pitch and have not been able to over amp it! Glad I bout it.

Programming
When I Program an esc I always use a 2s lipo. I've found in the past with other esc's they will get hot on 6s while programming if you are in there too long. I also had one burn up a couple years ago because of it. Don't know why, so I play it safe now.

v3
Yeah that would be nice but I don't believe they have an 80a coming out. They have the 50 which I will probably get next for the x3. I have a 70a hv platinum which also performs decent but startups aren't as smooth and governor is no where near the V3. The 100a is great and have not had an issue. I think I heard something about a 120a hv v3 on one of the forums. Good luck with your v3. I know you'll like it.

v3
When I ordered mine it took less than a week for it to come in. I ordered one for a friend and same thing, less than a week on ebay from China. I understood you meant hv, that's why I included the 70hv. It would be nice if they came out with the whole range. I would buy the 120hv as soon as it comes out. I have a castle In My 700 now but would change it out to try the hv v3.

v3
An update. This thing is awesome. No problems at all. Would recommend to everyone and I did. One of my friends had a problem programming with his dx8. This is the same problem I had with a hobbywing 40a a couple weeks ago. Transmitter at full throttle turn on esc and it counts Lipo cells but won't go into calibration or programming. Programming while plugged into the AR7200BX. Changed throttle parameters from 100-150 and nothing helped. Ended up having to grab another receiver to plug it into for programming. Once bound with another receiver and throttle up it went straight to calibration and then I went into programming and it worked perfectly. After I set it up I plugged it back into the AR7200BX. Works great and he said the startup ramping is way smoother. He was using a castle ice 100 before this.
Hope this helps some of you with the same issues.

Castle isn't good esc, at our local fields I've seeing lots of gov problem setup, failed, and even burned. Everyone brought Castle because for convenience sell at any local rc hobby shop also when i at local rc shop the retailers always said i recommend castle easy and reliable. LOL BS it's the hard setup and complicated esc I have ever see. get one because that's the only brands they have instock. I'm not fan of castle there is no point.

Governor store
Go back into programming and turn governor store off. Then turn the esc off. Turn the esc back on and recalibrate your end points again and reprogram with governor store on this time. Finnish programming and turn it off again. Make sure you have set a flat line of 50% on idle up. Turn it back on and flip it to idle up, let it run up to speed for a little bit. Flip hold and shut it off.
You should be set after that. It sounds like it didn't take calibration which will also throw your governor off. Make sure you calibrate with your throttle ranging from 0- 100% in your settings to start with!
Let me know if that works.

Governor store
No, you should only have to do it once. If it doesn't see your throttle range correct the first time you will see issues like yours and have to do it again. Flybarless systems can mess with your throttle range when you calibrate it. You do not have to recalibrate each time you set the gov.
Hope you can get it working right. Once it's set up you don't have to touch it again.

I have just fitted one on my Logo 500. The ESC has a large resistor flush with the bottom of the case that gets quite warm so I fitted the ESC with it facing up to get a good air flow over it.

I have cut the leads very short and soldered them directly to a Mikado current sensor.

I am using the v-bar governor. At first motor start when I flick motor on there is a small jolt of the model, but could be more severe on a smooth surface, and then the spool up is very smooth.

So far so good with this ESC using internal bec to power Futaba BLS 451s and MKS BLS 980
