In V1.4 software, the AIL and ELEV Expert Menus offers a new parameter titled DeadBand.

Would the graphs below be an accurate (albeit exaggerated) graphical representation of the two parameters and how they affect stick output?

DeadBand....

Negative Expo.....

Yep, you hit the nail on the head.

Expo puts the difference on a curve (to soften center)

Deadband zeros input (for a given width)

I think Deadband is useful for when pots are wearing out and minimizing accidental inputs (like rudder while adjusting collective) and Expo should be used for "calming" the heli around center stick.

Haha! Yes.

Futaba - use negative expo to soften center
Spektrum/JR - use positive expo to soften center

For most situations default is good. Run it too low on a transmitter with worn pots, and you can induce drift. Run it too low with a transmitter with good pots and you may feel in hover like you want more expo to keep the model still. Running it too high will completely disconnect the model from you and precise and very small stick inputs right around center.

Thanks Dr. Ben.

I tried increasing the DeadBand and I really like the feel. I only upped it from 4 to 8 but noticed a difference to my liking. I prefer a "dead" center stick, and because I have small hands and am a thumber, I am always fighting unwanted input at extreme stick throws. Before I was needing to add so much expo to get the center feeling that I wanted, I then had a severe non-linear feeling off center stick. This DeadBand setting turned out to be "THE TICKET" setting for me. I now enjoy a nice "dead" center stick (not too touchy) and can run much less expo to keep the linear feel throughout the entire stick range. V1.4 has really helped me gain confidence with my flying. I now feel much more in tune with the heli for some reason, I believe it to be this DeadBand setting as I no longer feel I am fighting a "touchy" bird and constantly having to battle "over input" corrections. All other settings on the CGY750 I have left at default and am simply overjoyed with how well the heli flies.

Thanks much Futaba for continuing the development of the CGY750!!

Would increasing the DeadBand help for a thumber who has shaky hands like myself?

Sorry...maybe this has been posted before...do we need to set up the heli from scratch again if we just update the software from1.3 to 1.4....will the system adjust to mimic the equivalent setting at 1.3 and then just finetune from that point onwards?

I did the update on two helicopters and the only thing that I had to change was the cyc.rate in flight tuning.
