AXI 5325/18 in a 1/4 scale heli??
I posted this in the electric motor forum and got zero replies, so I'll pick your brains a bit...

I'd like to use an AXI 5325/18 300KV motor in a 1/4 scale heli that I'm building. The scale machine will be clutched and running 850 rpm head speed. The AXI motor chart states 6-8S lipo for this motor. So, my question is: can this motor be safely run on 12S lipo? If so, why are they under rated? I'm guessing it's because these motors are rated for a direct drive prop and not originally intended for helicopter use.
Thanks, Barry

You got it! The motor is rated for a fixed size prop and to be running at full rpm, so the power is limited by the battery voltage. As you are putting it in a heli with a variable load, as long as that load does not exceed the maximum current rating of the motor you will be fine.

I am running or have run several of these AXI motors on 10 qand 12s setups and love them and currently have a 5320/18 in my Seasprite running on 12s. Its a bit small and may get changed out later when I get the model finished and see what the final weight will be.

Your 5325/18 is rated at 80 amps on 10s maximum which is near 3000watts. On 12s thats about 65 amps continuous

Thanks Peter, much appreciated!! I asked this Q because I have the AXI motor on the shelf and it has an 8mm shaft, perfect for hanging a clutch. I also talked to Stan, because he has the bigger AXI in your old Bell 47G3 and I know that it has been a great motor on 15S.
