Can this engine be ideal for scale flying? I have a Trex 700 that I'm going to stretch to a 800 size swinging 800mm blades and I would like to use this engine in it, do you guys think this engine would be up to the task?

well if you could find a pinion small enough and main gear big enough to get you the target scale HS of say 1300 to 1400 for an 800 class as the engines peak power is about 16K...

that would mean a gear ratio of aprx 12:1 or even 13:1...right now a Trex800 has a ratio of 8.46 for the electric version...

plus you would be carrying the extra weight of the scale body items...

So given that info I would say not a chance...you'll likely fry the engine running it at peak power just to try to hover...

you may want to consider at a minimum a zenoah like a well balanced 231 as it would have the torque to spin those big 800mm blades at a reasonable HS and have enough power to lift the weight of the scale items...
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

I think you could definately get a 91 nitro to work...if you find the right gearing and pipe setup to a low HS.showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

It's says that the gearing for my heli is 8.2:1:4.54 I know nothing about gear ratios and target head speed, this is a new ball game for me. I want to get low head speeds with this 91 engine no more than 1400 tops with 800mm blades and that might be to much maybe someone can help me.Batman - Scale it up
