Freya SSZ II rotor head question
Hi guys,
After about 6 gallons of fuel I found a small axial play between spindle and metal yoke (SSZ III Hirobo all metal head , Freya 61-90 OP). If I shake by rotor grip I can hear small clicks between spindle and yoke in all direction (up/down and left/right).I am surprised, is it normal in this head conception, or is the time to replace yoke ?

When you got this head assembly were they in pieces and have to build it up or was it partially built and just had to add the fly bar cage, flybar, paddles, etc.? And if you have to build it from ground up, what locktite compound were you using?

I don't thing is the yoke. I found most heads do show a little movement after a few hours of use between the grips and the bearing stack, or the bearing stack and the spindle. It all depends on the toleraces.

You may find the clicking or amount of play will vary with temperature.

My SSZ-IV heads had stayed pretty tight throughout their life, but they also have an insignificant amount of play on the grip.

IF the play increases in any way, disassemble the head and inspect.

To 2kwik2c:
The head comes in blue box , all assembled together, but not with loctite.I disassembled all parts, lubricate all bearings and damping rubbers, than I assembled head and for fixing all bolts I used red loctite.

To Santiago:
Good idea with bearing stacks, I rather remove both grips and check it.

I have the same head on one of my Freya's with the same issue.
I stopped worrying about it around a hundred flights ago.

I double check it now and it is really small axial clearance between yoke and spindle.I didn't have to remove grips, I just push spindle by my fingers through vertical hole in the yoke.

crflyer:
It is good news for me, that I can ignore it.Thanks
