Sorry to hear about that. Dieing at half a tank is usually a hole in the pick up line in the tank. Did you ever take apart the tank and check the inside plumbing? I know it's frustrating to hear about a check you may have missed but the indications were there. These will usually overheat earlier than a half a tank if it is a tuning problem. The motor sounded good in the hover. You can always richen the LS until she smokes and gets boggy then lean it back in. I can't tell what may have happened at the end. Did you put it down or change flight modes? Like Idle 1 to idle 2? or did it drop on it's own? It looks as though you put it down nose in, clipped the tail blades and then chased the cyclic a bit with some collective to level it out and then she tipped on the unlevel ground. Been there done that. You may be suprised how easy it is to get her flying again. I am also on a pretty tight budget and mine has not really flown for a few months. Every paycheck I pick up some needed parts, bearings and such. Don't give up. The Blades are probably the pricest part and you can check Hobby king on some decent deals on 690-710 blades. I have flown their 690s on a JR Ergo 60 and they flew great. Don't let it die. She will fly again.

Oh man Rob sorry to see that
Not sure what happened there but looked like some sort of radio glitch. that you lost control of it and it started bobbling around like that until it crashed. You were hovering so smooth I can't believe that the last 5 seconds or so was all you throwing the sticks around like that, I'm sure you feel the same way.

I hope you can put it back together and keep flying,

I watched the video about 10 times
is that the battery connector dangling from the front of it as its bouncing around? Looked like a long wire may have been the deans plug came unplugged when it touched down and then it was a free flight?

Bummer.

FWIW...seems that deans plug was never connected to anything from the start of the video.

you guys win th lottery.... LOL
i watch too.....even blew up video and put in slow mo......the deans came unplugged.......caz i lost all rx control......i guess a onboard generator would have saved that.....i had it strapped in to....it was hovering good, and i thought i had carb just right.....but what a mess, so parts seem you cant find them, plus im out of money know,,,,,,but i dont know what will happen to it now....it seems to have wrecked the main shaft some rods all servo horns, and the whole tails section......so $$$$$$$$$but i dont know.....i can put on my resume, that i hovered a gasser 6 times....it is what it is.....thanks for all the help guys....deans plugs suck........if the battery was on......could have kill motor at least.....but oh well....

and i think a hard wired generator would be a first buy on one of these to save your ass....

That blows! Was the that the failsafe settings it went into? I have mine at idle and -2 collective just to bring it back to earth without flying off. Those blades flying off is what would have browned up my shorts. If you truly are giving up on her, I am sure someone would buy the remains and attempt a rebuild. I know I if I had the funds I would. Best of luck too you with all your future flying.

Yeah, wouldn't have worked with no power. I may relook at the gen idea or the battery backer set up.

Man that is heart breaking ,,,I am so sorry to see that. The heli seemed to be working very well until the power outage. You did a very good job setting it up. Why not do an autopsy on the bird and post the list of needed parts here. There maybe used parts and blades etc available to get you back in the air cheaply. Hell I'll donate a used set of main blades off of my 1005 Min Air for the cause. They ain't fancy but never crashed and work fine. Let me know.Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

definately don't quit based on a connector falling off...cause like the guys have said and its clear that you had it flying very well.
please keep in mind that gassers do vibrate more so one big rule is to make sure to use loctite where needed as well as securing electrical connections.
belive me...we have all had our fair share of crashes caused by a 5 cent screw or 2 cent crimped wire joint and some guys spend tons of $$$ only to never fly a single circuit. We all know it can be frustrating especially when it hits you in the wallet. But best thing to do is learn everything you can, apply it (as you have been) and push forward...above all remember that this hobby isn't free...for the most part anyway.
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

ok guys he after math.......and im ready for the picking on or S**T i messed up or was lazy
ok guys here it is....my well deserved baby, that i sold two nitros and a few other things to buy......ive heard alot of people tell me....if you cant afford this hobby dont do it....but i love these things, and i almost gave up....the first bird i bought after my toys r us heli....was a walkera UFLY......and that was the biggest junk i ever had......but i didnt give up, i bought a honey bee, and it brought my back in the game....and the ADDICTION, so anyways it took me 3 years and a bunch of youtube vids and alot of crashes, and im still no where near most of you vetrans, and im in worcester ma, and i was offer to fly with guys, but truth, because of price of gas i could never go, and there is nobody around that flys helis........so i enjoy flying in my back yard, and my work has a feild, so im happy just putting around, and not worring about life and all around me........well enough of the sob story, all you guy on the 3 forums i hang at, are the nicest guy out there....not affriad to give out the secrets......but sometimes talk like einstein and i dont understand.....( yes being a kiss ass.....i need parts....LOL) but any ways as you can see if anyone has any good used parts, i would love to try to by....and please dont feel bad for me, im not out to steal anything from anyone, and im honest all the way.......first off i do have a walkera master cp and its little brother genius cp, with battiers and charger and 7e radio...that i like for inside winter flying.....and ill be honest, the master cp exploded a blade root and did not end well......but i bought all brand new parts and metal gear servos and she is back to new......so i have that to sell or trade. i would like to keep it all together caz they share the 7e radio,,,,,,,,so the bad news.....and then you guys can yell at me...i thought i was doing good....but i think my lazyness was the downfall
so these are parts i need to find....
1. boom
2. tourge tube
3. rear tail case
4. every shaft in tail....i dont know all the name
5 tail servo control rod and parts
6. tail rod holders
7 the main gear that drives the tail....but main gear looks fine
8. main shaft but i have one
9. upper head rods....( the rest of head looks ok, but have not had tie to tear it all down yet
10. boom supports......but i think i can bend them back if nobody has
11. tail blades
12. futaba servo horns......i think servos are all ok...the horns all broke free
13, main blades, i think they are 710mm but dont have a metric ruler
14. the oouter tail shaft that hods the grips......the grips look ok, but bearings are now crunchy
15. so blade grip bearings
16. 1 of the drive shaft couplers, one looks good.....near main shaft, but shaft with that coupler is bent too
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx that seems it for nowXXXXXXXXXso thanks for any help

and now for the bad, i love the batteries i pick for rx......but i didnt want to resolder new ends on, so wal-la they make a adapter to go from battery to dean connector......and i noticed its gone....so thats for sure what went wrong....sorry guys i screwwed up

Don't quit now....
Use the manual and get all the part numbers you require. Take a look a Ronlund.com. He has all the century parts 30% off. He may have all the parts you need.

This is so weird
I read about this, I replied to it, and today I had a close call and almost relived it.

My friend Pete handed me his whiplash so I could retune it for the warmer weather. I went through some maneuvers, check temps, dialed in needles and did power climbouts to confirm settings. At the end of the flight I hit the throttle hold to auto down and all of a sudden the heli started wiggling around in the sky and the engine was pulsing up and down. Heck what the hell is up, I thought I better get it down quick but I didn't know if I'm going to be able to save it. Control seemed mushy and contaminated by other throws that were not pilot inputs, and somehow, someway when it got close to the ground I gave it the collective to land and it was a bit delayed but it took and the heli landed a bit hard but landed due to the late collective input.

I tried to shut it off but it wouldn't shut off, and the engine was still pulsing up and down and the servos were moving around making it rock and roll. I was like no No NO you can't crash on the ground now, I just did a miracle landing it can't end bad. Trying to figure out what to do, a gust of wind came in and picked it up a little bit the heli almost rolled over, I knew I was running out of time.

With the head speed at close to 700 rpms my guess, it was a crazy dangerous move as I walked up to it and put my hand on the rotor trying to stop it. The engine kept pulsing up and the rotor rpm was fighting me, I couldn't stop it 100% it slowed to about 300 rpms and I seem to hit my limit as I felt my hand ache with pain from the head button digging into it. I decided to put my fingers in between the blade grips which stopped it fast and one blade swung around and got me in the shin. At this point I was holding on the to head, I tried to move the throttle servo but you can't move those with power on, then I tried to plug the muffler with my finger but it burned me before it stopped the motor, had to take my finger off and it came to life again. I tried it once more with the palm of my hand and got burned again, no engine stop either. Finally I had to pull the fuel lines from the carb and wait some agonizing seconds until the carb chambers ran out while holding on to the heli. There was a smell of the clutch, not good but certainly better than a crash.

After it stopped I noticed there was no more power to the servos. An inspection of the heli showed that his 5 cell NiMH battery plug got unplugged from the switch. How crazy is that, coincidence or what? Luckily for him he had a generator on board that barely managed to land the machine at idle power, If his idle was faster it would have been more stable, but the erratic idle speed of the motor makes for limited power from the generator that is not steady hence the servos pulsing around. My guess is that it got unplugged while I was tic tocking it earlier but I didn't notice anything wrong until I hit throttle hold for an auto and the engine rpms slowed down to an idle.

Moral of the story definitely get yourself a battery backup, the one that fastflyer recommended seems to be a good lower cost option.

-=>Raja.

Below is a photo of how I got "branded" by the muffler, and it wasn't even MY helicopter that I was saving
