Hard to believe all Horizon does is put a note on their website.
What happened is that the counterfeiters used the information Spektrum or Horizon had posted to improve on their fakes. So they had to take it down. They more or less showed the counterfeiters where the flaws were.

Most of the Asian countries have little to no legal protections against counterfeiting or copying or for faking products. That has been the problem as the fakers can get away with it.

JR and Spektrum are not one and the same. JR will depart Horizon down the road. Spektrum is Horizons and not going anywhere.

It's easy to do. JR now is now DMSS and new JR transmitters are not comparable with any Spektrum receivers.

I believe Horizon could and should do something about fake spektrum items being sold on ebay at a minimum. Its right under their nose.

Doing nothing will hurt them in the long run because the fakes will be what a lot of people judge Spektrum reliability by.

They used to check flea bay and shut down counterfeiters but I guess due to the recent change of command over there that's it's no longer a priority.

I also think that they have quite a few lawsuits going on in the other countries about it too.

I finally got a reply from Horizon regarding my question on what do I look for to tell the difference between a original AR6200 and a fake Spektrum receiver. They told me I would have to send the receiver in (and I guess pay them) to look at it.

You know what, I think that is a crock. They didn't ask to see a picture or anything.

This don't care attitude will cost them their reputation. From what I see on Ebay these fake receivers are selling like hotcakes. If Horizon can't tell their customers how to tell a real from fake, then the fakes will considered real ones very soon.

At least until someone mails it in for warranty service and gets it returned as a fake and not supported.

Well pictures aren't all that good, most pictures have the colors wrong. So you can't see the colors properly in a picture. even the computer monitors can vary quite a bit as to the colors shown too. The photo-publishing people use complex color comparison charts and special sensors to get the correct colors for their customers.

Heliman 41 and a half,
I want to pull your chain a little. Horizon "did" reply and offer you a solution. I can understand you don't want to spend money for 2-way shipping. But pictures just aren't going to be conclusive. I can imagine the mess Horizon would have if hundreds of people started sending in crappy pictures wanting to know what they just bought. This is not a way for them to make money.

Let me save you a bunch of time and trouble. You bought a fake receiver either use it or trash it. I don't understand what you want Horizon to do? You act like they owe you something. If you want it checked out pay up and send it to them.

They ask to see it up close and in person. You refuse to send it. That's not Horizon's fault. It seems that you are outraged that you got burned, but at the same time insist on keeping it. The vendor who sold you the item isn't about to refund your money, it appears.

If you got a hundred dollar bill for change and thought is was a counterfeit, the bank/FBI/Secret Service wouldn't accept a picture of the bill, they would want the bill, and you wouldn't get a replacement from them.

If you as a vendor got a hundred dollar bill in payment for something you sold, and the bill turns out to be phony, you're out the merchandise for which YOU paid, AND you're out the phony bill. You lose twice. No one "makes it better" for you, the vendor.

You bought an item from Ebay, at about half the price you would pay at a real hobby shop, and complain that Horizon has a "don't care" attitude. You went out of your way to find a bargain, and since it's a counterfeit, Horizon made no money on the sale. They lost money.

Yet you really don't know WHAT Horizon/Spektrum are doing to stop the counterfeiters. Evidence is one thing they need to stop it. Your actions denied them that evidence.

Your complaint is actually with Ebay, as they do nothing to shut down the illegal activity. There are many sites on Ebay selling the same crap you bought. Ebay needs to know these sellers are dealing in illegal sales.
From what I see on Ebay these fake receivers are selling like hotcakes. If Horizon can't tell their customers how to tell a real from fake, then the fakes will considered real ones very soon.
Well, you bought it from a Chinese company using a fake US address. How does that make you a Horizon customer? And they're selling like hot cakes because people don't want to pay the going price for the real thing.

Counterfeiting is not an easy crime to detect, arrest, and prosecute. It's even more difficult when the victim refuses to help.

With Ebay, you pay your money and you take your chances. Funny thing is, you could have probably gotten a better deal here on the RunRyder classified ads, and ended up with the real McCoy.

You purchased a Rx from eBay, not from Horizon. By doing so, you accepted the risk of a counterfeit or genuine product.

Moreover, you should be appreciative that Horizon has agreed to look at your product that you purchased from eBay. Horizon is a business, and as such, a nominal fee charge for postal services is customary.

Okay.

Tell me why did Horizon remove all their pictures of a AR6200 from their site, so we could have a reference?

Tell me why Horizon could not have said, the AR6200 was not made in China or any other information about it?

So you guys want to shoot the messenger, is that it? All was doing is them a favor by trying to inform them fake receivers were being sold on Ebay. Me send it in huh? Why not they go look and buy one for themselves, if they cared.

And, stop saying I was burned. I told you I got a refund. I was not burned.

It is my opinion and is still my opinion, irregardless of your opinion, that Horizon could do more to help us identify suspect Spektrum equipment and they could post what they are doing to stop the sales of it.

You can count on this, though. I will not say a word the next time.

Regards.

OK. Horizon Hobby and Spektrum BOTH knew you were going to buy that counterfeit receiver, and pulled the pictures to thwart your attempt to hold them liable for you buying a knockoff of their product.

-----

OR -- The AR6200 is a DSM2 receiver, and is no longer manufactured or sold by either Horizon or Spektrum. As it is an obsolete product, there is no reason to list it among their websites for sale. Why clutter their sites with obsolete product.

About the only DSM2 product you can still buy "new" is the DSM2 satellite receivers, as there are a ton of DSM2 receivers still out there being used.

-----

I own a ton of real AR7000 receivers, but that receiver is not found either at Horizon or Spektrum. Same goes for the AR6100e receivers I own.

There is nothing nefarious going on, except you got screwed by a Chinese vendor using a fake US address on Ebay. Go after Ebay, not Horizon or Spektrum.

If you really want to save some $$$ and get non-counterfeit parts, just go to Hobby King and pick up their Orange DSM2 receivers. They work great, cost next to nothing and don't claim to be Spektrum.

"There is nothing nefarious going on, except you got screwed by a Chinese vendor using a fake US address on Ebay. Go after Ebay, not Horizon or Spektrum."

Sir, please, review my comments again. How many times did I say I got a refund? For the 3rd time, I did not get "screwed." GET IT?

Either you are missing the point or are just a trouble maker, I don't know which.

I admitted and will again, I made a mistake thinking somebody cared about this issue. I already said, and will say again, the next time I will keep my mouth shut.

Even though I have 4 JR 8103s, 1 DX7 and 1 DX8, and been a Horizon customer for over 15 years, I am disappointed in their response to "out in the open" " in your face" sales of counterfeit Spektrum products. It is NOT my duty to fight Ebay. I do not have any "standing." I do not hold the rights to Spektrum products, they do. If you don't know anything about this legal criteria, look it up. I did my part by notifying them.

Have you even done that? Or, do you care less than I do?

You seem sensitive about this. Are you a Horizon rep?

You clearly haven't been on RunRyder long enough to realize that dkshema, with over 16,000 posts, has contributed lengthy, accurate, and useful technical support to probably thousand of members. We highly respect his ability and opinions. Even without his input, we all realize that you are incorrectly blaming Horizon.

Just take it as a life lesson, an move on.

Neither one.

Dave is an awesome source of information and benefit to runryder and this hobby. He is a wise man with a lengthy history of sage advice to heli pilots old and new.

Sorry you had a bad experience.
I think everyone who has read this thread is a bit wiser for it.

I think your obsessed with this. Look in a nutshell you screwed up and made a bad buy. You got your refund so what's the problem? Time to move on. If you think the seller is going to prison for this dream on.
