There are a lot of clubs with old guys and the old guy mentality . The problem they don't see is when they die there is no yungins to keep field going . You want the young blood to keep club young and growing ,also who's going to do all the yard work :-)

When a flying site looks shabby, look around and you'll see a lot of hanger flyers bitching about politics or the one kid flying hard 3d with a plank and how much money it cost to fix after he abuses it and crashes .

Sorry if I generalized or hurt anyone's feelings .
There's a lot of cool old guys and they hang out with us youngins :-)
I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

I consider myself a young guy. (I guess I always will!) I'm 38.

I am club president and we are a mixed club. Gas planes, glo planes, e planes, electric helis, glo helis, giant scale, war pigs, a jet or so, quads, bnf junk, and other stuff I'm sure I forgot. We have it all.

When I joined the club almost 12 years ago, the club was ran by older guys and was 100% anti helicopter. Really 100% anti anything that wasn't a plank. I had one or two OLDER members who stepped forward and vouched for me right after just meeting me and didn't know me. There ARE VERY GOOD guys still out there that have been around for a long time. I know some. They like ANYTHING that flies and treat people right. Bottom line is they are good people. We had SEVERAL rude people who have left the club thankfully. I simply outlived a couple of them. lol True...

New guys don't want to help work on the field. They don't like rules of ANY kind. They don't want to pay dues so the club can pay a member to keep field mowed so every time they show up it is ready to use.

I have taught a ton of guys to fly helis and me and club vice president are both heli guys.(we can fly planes too) We all get along and we have one or two smart-eleks but they are in minority and never can gain and traction.

Old guys can RUIN clubs. 110% Lazy do nothing guys can too. 110%. Good people come in ALL ages and shapes and forms.

Hey Norman. Glad to hear from you.
My post wasn't really about Plank Vs. Heli or Old guys Vs. Young
guys.
What ever happened in the past is on their heads now. We have a better spot to fly in.
Helis only unless we vote to let planks in, but don't see that happening.

Now that said, get yer butt over here and fly with us. All of ya!

Nice job on the field. I don't know how much trouble you are going to have with hikers, bikers, DOG WALKERS, horse back riders, runners... because it's a county park. I used to belong to the Valley Forge Signal Seekers here in S.E Pa, located in Valley Forge National Park. Every weekend we had people trying to cross the field while we were flying. Somebody from the club always had to chase them off the field. And this is truly a safety issue. Oh, by the way, I left the club because it became heli unfriendly, turned into a real hassle to fly there.

Best of luck with your new field.
Damn that ground is hard! When's the right time to get out of this money sucking hobby?

It's in a flood plane, been abandoned since the mid 80's when there was a big flood here. Sod farm and and bean/ wheat fields to the south of us. Creek to the north. It's county land but there is a big park about 3 miles north of our field.
Never know for sure but i think we'll be ok for a few years.

Awesome!!! Nice looking field, you all should be very proud!!!

I guess I'm lucky, our club, has everything R/C, I mean everything, Cars, boats, Helis, Planks, Quads, We all love everything R/C, and everyone gets along great, we are small, only 6 of us left now, but we hold a AMA Fun Fly event every year, I think last year we had over 50 pilots, Our funflys are mainly airplanes, but when we don't have a event going, there are fomes giant scale, helis, cars and boats and float planes running around all the time, It's all about the FUN!,, Chuck, don't discrimate aginest the plankers, Think about it, You all didn't like it, so why would you do it to someone else, Welcome all members with open arms, and your club will grow fast,
Our club, Northwest Oklahoma Remote Control Flyers (AMA # 4100) has a Facebook page, Darwin Loomis our present President, and Land owner put it together and keeps it updated with videos, and pic's, It's all about having fun, Search Facebook for NW OK RC Flyers AMA Club# 4100 (The Flying L/7) XGM/VGM

I knew what you meant. I am envious of your field. Yours is much nicer than mine for sure. We don't have electricity at the field. Club wants to city don't want us to.

I do need to come test out the field for sure soon.😉
