This hobby has been kind of on the back-burner for me the last year or so due to life. I currently have a V1 Sport that I would like to convert to flybarless. What head are you all using/would you recommend? I saw the DFC head conversion kit, which doesn't appear to included the new clamping head block... Are there really any other options other than the DFC head or Tarot head?

You could use the Align Sport fbl head.

It costs more than DFC but it flies nice. DFC is better for stick banging. I found the sport head very smooth for sport flying.

BTW, this not the old 1st gen 3g fbl head.

I haven't been able to find that anywhere. I've found one part here, another somewhere else. Is that the only way to get that head together?

Hi Shane,

Unfortunately, you have to piece it together. Align missed the boat on that one.

I went dfc on my sport. So long as you aren't using beastx its not a bad option either.

You can get the entire head accept you have to buy it with 3gx unit. Its not worth it. Any Align fbl head will work on the sport model. Personal i would go with the DFC set, its not just for stick banging.

Knight, we're not talking about the same head. You're thinking of the gen1 3g head. It's not the same as sport fbl head pictured.

I have had no problems with my DFC conversion on my 450 Sport V2.I don't fly super high headspeed or bang the sticks hard and the DFC has been great.
I have nothing against DFC so far and my Align 550 DFC Pro will be in the air soon. BUT just to make everyone happy I would like to see Align offer FBL and DFC heads for their line of heli's. If nothing else they will sell more parts for guys that want to try one or the other.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Well it's good to know the DFC head can fly well for all types of flying. I tend to like the bigger air type stuff.

I think guys on larger dfc heli's 550 and up have more trouble when running lower head speeds. Also the fact the tail gearing on the 550 is low so you must run higher headspeeds or use larger tail blades.
My 450 is running between 2700 to 2800 headspeed. No problems.

Was able to get a DFC head dirt cheap but just realized that I may need a different main shaft than the one included in the DFC upgrade kit for the V1 Sport or the stock sport main shaft. The one that came with it has a welded collar, but I need this main shaft, correct?: http://www.alignrcusa.com/index.php...84a60b43a0fe43c

Correct

The shaft still uses a collar for the sport/se.
