If they find it was a lipo battery that started it, our hobby of electrics will quickly get harder to procure batteries.
A FedEx tractor-trailer truck was already in flames when it crossed a median and slammed into a bus carrying students in Northern California, CNN affiliate KOVR reported, citing two witnesses.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Haven't seen the story but if it was on fire and that's what caused the wreck, I would think it was the tractor that was on fire and not the trailer.

My understanding is that they are not sure if the tractor was on fire before or after the wreck

Probably had a heart attack.

I watched a truck just drive right off of the interstate in Oklahoma and rolled to a stop in a pasture, he didn't hit the brakes or even try to dodge small trees.
That was 3 or 4 years ago.

.
The Fedex was on fire before it crossed the median and hit the bus head on, according to two witnesses.

Have they determined the cause of the fire?

I recall hearing this story about witness accounts. Speaking of airplane crashes, some witness will often state the plane was seen to be on fire as it was going down. Even when subsequent analysis shows this to be clearly not true. Apparently some kind of psychological effect at work that makes people see flames during disasters.

Ups and fedex trucks go up in flames all the time. Its a stupid thread to accuse lipos.

It could be any kind of hazardous cargo, or even a brake problem. There is really no use speculating until there is some real evidence.

Haha, Your first sentence gives two speculations. The second sentence says their is no use to speculating.

.
I did not accuse lipos. I implied if it were found to be lipos and with this many youngsters being killed it will be a possible problem for lipo shipments.
Here is what a stated:
Please note the "IF" before you call me stupid.
If they find it was a lipo battery that started it,
Yes, the kids deaths were tragic and secondary to the truck fire, but tremendous pressure will be brought against shipping lipos IF it were started by lipos..

Interesting.
If it was carrying ammo, will the ban ammo shipments? Nope. But, it might get really expensive to ship LiPos

The "eyewitness" that say they saw the truck on fire before they were hit were the couple in the car that was hit 1st by the FedEx truck after it crossed the medium.
The flames were supposed to be coming from underneath the cab of the truck, not the trailer and not the engine.

They interviewed a young man in the hospital that said he was sitting directly behind the bus driver. He said he had a clear view and watched as the whole thing unfolded.
He did not see the flames.

It is a mess.
Real data so far:
They took blood from the 2 drivers. Waiting for the analysis (2 to 3 weeks minimum (remember Paul Walker's crash)).
They recovered the data recorder from the bus. The FedEx truck's data recorder was incinerated.
There were no skid marks from the truck.
They have the whole scene mapped with 3d cameras and geodetic surveys. They can now run the simulations on the computers.

Believe 1/2 of what you see and none of what you hear.

Someome is reaching at straws or stirring up crap. This is a local story for me and no mention of the cause of the fire was made. Just that it was on fire before it hit the bus.

Whatever started the fire, it sounds like it most likely incapicated the driver of the truck. Maybe he was smoking and dropped is cigarrete...maybe he just fell asleep. Since it was coming from underneath the cab...maybe it was the transmission or a brake fire. Who really knows.

But, like what's already been said, if it were LiPos that started the fire, I highly doubt, they could start the cab on fire without the trailer burning up first. And it seems like if that were the case, the driver would have noticed or been flagged down by the police or another driver and pulled over.
