Is anyone running their X3 on both 6S and 3S with common setup? If so what's your setup and result?

So I tried an experiment last weekend, running 3S 35C 2250mah on my X3 which is set up for 6S.

I'm running 460MX 1800kv motor with 13T pinion, CC Edge Lite 50 with governor set to 2800, 3000, 3200, and using 6S 40C 1400mah. This setup does awesome doing light, smooth 3D. It still does ok on harder stuff, but slight bogging which will be addressed with some fine tuning. I'm getting full 5 mins of flight time with 23-26% battery capacity left.

So out comes the 3S. Without changing a single thing except battery, here is my result: The heli flies very stable. Because I have a set governor at 3000 (I always fly in IU1), and the 3S cannot reach 3000, the X3 runs like governed at 2000, except that there is absolutely no headroom so the ESC outputs flat 100%. For this reason, I did not brave any crazy maneuvers and just did hovering and upright sport type flying. As it was my first 3S flight on this setup, I ended my flight at 5mins. The battery still showed capacity of 69%, so I likely had another 3-4 mins left. 2nd 3S flew exact same way. Upon looking at the logs, it was confirmed what I felt. Headspeed decreased around 200rpm over the 5 mins of flight. While fine for hovering and easy flying, felt under-powered for anything harder.

So my verdict for this round is slight disappointment with 3S, but definitely a passing grade. Next I'm going to try using Governor High instead of Set RPM and see if it improves things. I figure if I set to governor high, with flat throttle at 90%, I should still have enough headroom at 6S @ 3500rpm, and at 3S, I'd get 1800rpm with some headroom. I'll update how it goes.

Please do share your experiences if you've tried this.

That flights would be weird man 3s with 360 mm blade and xx boom?.

I am doing the same on the dominator short boom and 325mm blade 3s pack.

there is no short boom for the X3.

I thoughts 335 mm is maximum blade lengths for a 3s to avoide a load discrepancy!,

I was waiting on some honey but there aren't no Queen bee,

I actually do this on both my X3 and Warp 360 now, although the Warp handles 3S much better. On the Warp, I can do sport flying, smooth flips and rolls, and inverted flight. Admittedly there isn't much pitch power, but that's what makes it fun and challenging as everything you do needs to be very smooth. Usually smaller blades (i.e. 325mm) require more headspeed, not less, but I have not tried 325 blades on either heli, at either 3S or 6S.

Both birds are running 360mm blades with standard kit, Align 360mm on my X3 and Lynx 360 3D FBL blades on my Warp. The Warp flies very well and the X3 flies ok and the Warp is so stealthy on 3S.

Since my original post, I have gone down to a 12T pinion on the X3 and it still manages to fly 3S, but now the headspeed is 1850 RPM. The Warp I've got set up on 17T and it similarly gets 1850rpm on 3S. I much prefer the Warp on 3S now, and may get one 3S flight in on my X3 per session, whereas I always get at least two 3S flights per session.

As for flight times, I'm getting 8 mins on both helis on 3S (I could actually get 10 mins, but 8 mins brings the Lipo back very close to perfect storage capacity (3.83 with 32% capacity left). As for current, both birds average about 10A while on 3S.

Now, as much as I enjoy 3S flying on my 6S setup, flying the X3 and Warp on 6S is still much better. Again, I do not change anything on the helis to switch from 6S to 3S except for extended my timer.

Anyway, here's a video (not mine) of both the Dominator and X3 on 3S:

I flew my 6s X3 with Edge 353's on a 3s 2600mah last night. Came down after 4:30 with 4.05v. 1800 head speed, flips rolls, some inverted circuits. It challenged my collective management skills

I was going to take up Origami, but someone said the local club folded.

We have a fellow at our flying field who has been flying his X3 heli with both 3 cell and 6 cell battery packs. 3 Cell is pretty much 100% throttle. But for 6 cell he set the throttle speeds for slow like 3 cell and two 6 cell speeds (sort of like sport and stunt). He was using 360mm main blades. with three cells the rotor speed was at about maybe 1,900 rpms. With this speed one cannot perform all of the 3D stunts, but you can still get it to do a lot of things. You have to stay ahead of the heli as you don't have a lot of power and pretty much no extra power to spare, thus you have to be more careful. Anyway, I was pretty well impressed with how well he could fly it around like that too.
