Want to hear about which brand has been around the longest and why you feel it has been around for so long.

in particular the Heli make and sizes 600 thru 700.

what gives the brand staying power in todays fast paced instant satisfaction market.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Much like the stock market past performance is not indicative of future results. In fact, many of the former leading brands are no longer in business today. The ones with the most working capital are the ones who will likely be around the longest. Since all the manufactures that I know of are privately held we have no idea of their financial status as we would if they were a publicly traded company.

But if all the other companies are gone who would align copy?

Sorry had to, when I started the only company I knew of was thunder tiger. I think mikado was open back then but extremely expensive...

I didn't have internet when I started so pretty much flew by myself

The internet was in it's infancy when I FIRST started, and non-existent for personal use. PC's were very crude as well...my first was a Timex Sinclair ZX80

While none have "been around a long time" I think Mikado, Henseleit, Diabolo, maybe even SAB, and, yes even Align will be around for some time to come.

I hope Synergy, and Avant can continue!
However, trying to compete with the oriental sweat shops will continually be a substantial challenge for thr American companies, as so many put price before quality.

as so many put price before quality.
but there is the problem...you can't sell helis if they cost more than majority are willing to spend or risk crashing...

but then most will not dump money into junk more than once maybe twice.

so could it be that a brand needs to have teaser or sucker models and then provide expensive alternatives once they figure out that the cheap one suck?

or could it be that the cheap Heli companies are in a way propping up expensive brands by first bringing (hooking more like) into the hobby...then they dump them for another brand?

other wise what keeps the expensive brands alive?

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

to answer the questions (and keeping in mind that you did not specify inside the US only), it would have to be Hirobo, why, because they are no better and no worse than other brands, and their price ranges from low to high to rather high

Some brands are just iconic. Take Harley for example... During the years that AMC owned them I wouldn't say quality was synonymous with the brand. However, a loyal following kept them afloat. Now days, the quality is back up there but it was still touch and go for a while when the economy was at its worst. I, and hundreds and thousands of others, would be very sad if a great brand like Harley went under.

I don't know the story of Miniature Aircraft but I can't help but think that the soft economy was a big part of it. Businesses are hard enough to run during the good times but when people start holding on to what little extra they have, RC Helis are probably going to take a back seat for most people. Now that China seems to be having their own financial crisis, it should be interesting to see if any of those brands take a hit.

I personally like Century Helicopters. They have been around for more than 25 years and I like the quality and durability of their products. I know they have some issues currently with their website and lots of complaining about customer service. Most of the complaints are from the quads they carry but do not manufacture. That is risky when quality comes into question. It can carry over to the whole name when you are not able to support the products to the customer's satisfaction. Their traditional helicopters are simple, rugged and easy to maintain. My Hawk Sport is almost 10 years old and she still flies beautifully and needs little maintenance related attention. I believe Century will be around for some time. Especially in the gasser market.

Best Brand For 2050
At some point... we will just start printing our own parts ... then it will be a matter of selecting the best compatible design for the part you need.

The only thing that will stay the same is change.

Like it or not, I'll bet Horizon/Blade will still be around. And, before anyone starts the inevitable bashing... Shut it. They're making quite decent heli KITS now in their Pro Series line and that includes 600 and 700s.

Doesn't matter if you don't even have the ability to purchase the brand. Look at Miniature Aircraft (X-Cell). They made quality stuff and, now, they're gone.

By what Ive been able to gather over the years and readng alot on all forums for RC anything is this simple concept:

The more exposure you have, your local field, online "outlets", LHSs...the overall better health your brand will have.

for example, It would seem everybody drools over these "speed" helis...but really, what is thier market share when you take everybody into account that flys say 500 class and above? not much if anything really...they seem to keep afloat by those that have the $$$ to throw at the elite of helis...so I dont think its quality first...and I don't think its cost too much either...

I think its exposure to the RC and "RC curious" community first, and then a balance between cost and quality (neither takes over the other)

but yet still strange that a well exposed brand (Like MA) would go under (which had more to do with the owner I belive)....yet some company that has a waiting period of over a year would have a line out the door for parts that cost 4x more than a similar sized bird of similar peformance...

this is a strange hobby indeed.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
