Main blades paint patterns
On main blades that have varying colors (for visibility?), is the bottom of the blades the same as the top, or a solid color (black, etc.)?
E820, Raptor G4N, X50F/E, E620, Forza 450, and some planks.

Painted Blades
Just about all that I have seen only have the markings on top.. a good visual for traffic above..
I have seen several that have a yellow stripe towards the tip that will be top and bottom..
Hope this helps you out..

Colour tipped or banded blades need to go top and bottom
Some of the Sea king rescue have one whole blade painted a different colour, in my case day glow orange
If you fly with black blades they are not visible
If you tip just one blade it gives the appearance to the observers that the head is spinning slower

Just To Clarify??
Hi Peter,
Just to be clear..by the color tipped blades, do you mean the, say yellow stripe, would go top and bottom?

By banded do you mean, say white stripes at different locations, are also supposed to go top and bottom???

Thanks, Stan

most of the fullsize machines ive seen have the larger stripes just on the top with the bottom a dark or black color. like mentioned, on a multibladed head, if one is painted a diff (contrasting) color, it g1ves the effect of a lower rotorspeed. Ive seen tips (usually a small portion or length) painted on top and bottom and also just on the top. My preference is for striping on the top only with a flat black on the bottom drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

Just to clarify
Stan, Yes, top and bottom
If you have more than one aircraft, some will be higher or lower

Some experiments were carried out to discover why when multiple helicopters were lining up for approach landings,(aircraft carriers) there were quite a few accident
It was found there was a time when pilots were hypnotised by looking down through The blades of the helicopters ahead, especially when night landings
Different types of banding were used, it was where I got my single day glow blade idea from
Looking at my Sea king archive photo's all tail blades are striped, both sides, but not all main blades
