So Avant has shipped a couple Mostros to their team pilots.

Avant made the blade bolts out of soft stainless steel instead of grade 12.9 alloy steel.

One of their team pilots is bending them in flight!

So they make the blade bolts out of soft stainless and they are surprised they bend in flight? Come on guys - stainless steel in a high-stress application?

I guess the Mostro is not perfect out of the box.

Very interesting. I plan to give it a little while before I make a purchase....let them get all the bugs worked out

Remember to keep everything balanced!

From Avant:
From their feedback we found out that we were missing a few screws and a few washers. They also suggested some minor adjustments so we ran those parts again this weekend to make the adjustments and we are processing them to have them done this week to see if we can still start shipping to customers this week. Another thing they found is that one of our pilots, Jack "Frost" Imparato apparently was flying it so aggressively that he was able to bent the blade bolts in flight. We are sending them all replacements of the blade bolts for stronger ones. Those are also being incorporated to the kits as we speak. Unfortunately the new bolts can't be made of the current pretty Stainless Steel anymore because we need them made out of Alloy Steel instead. We at the factory did tests at very high head speeds ( 2550 rpm ) and weren't able to bend the current bolts but then again we don't have the same blades or settings as the pilot
Funny how people focus only on what they want to see. As stated from Avant you won't be getting those bolts in your kit if you choose to get one but you will receive the stronger alloy steel bolts.

Definitely nothing wrong with waiting until kinks get worked out.

Rock apparently has a personal vendetta or is just straight trolling. Avant already took care of it but of course you knew that but choose to run your mouth about anything you can come up with to complain about right? It's getting old bro. We get it you don't like Avant for whatever reason. That's fine. Move on.

You always like to add a twist to my posts. No problem.

My point was maybe they should hire a mechanical engineer, because you just don't use soft stainless steel in a high stress application.

For Jesus bolts and blade bolts you use something like grade 12.9 alloy steel.

They talk about all the analysis that was done on this design, yet they missed something as basic and fundamental as that.

That was my point.......

They used those very same bolts on the Aurora for years and how many reports have you heard of bending them? Exactly. They didn't bend any in their testing but the team pilot that bent them slightly has a very aggressive style and was at 2300 head speed. I was there for the flight. Avant didn't hide it or "not communicate" like you claim and yet here you are complaining just to complain. They said it themselves and here comes rock with megaphone in hand.

When you post something and don't tell the whole story......
Here it is they openly admit to some shortcomings of the kit and you post "Mostro Blade Bolts Can Bend in Flight". You fail to mention they are replacing those bolts before kits ship and are sending new bolts to their pilots not to mention only one of the pilots had that happen. But wait a minute, how could we even know this when Avant is so lousy at keeping us updated and of all things missing screws and washers, and bending blade bolts. They are their own worst enemy being so honest.

Hey Tom.

Yes I have an issue with the poor attitude at Avant. They think they can crap all over their customers. The release has been handled extremely poorly by Avant. This release has been eye-opening to many potential customers, and has been downright disingenuous to the dealers.

I don't take issue with the reps. You guys have tried hard to make the best of a bad situation.

And like I said before, you have been very professional yourself, and patient through this whole fiasco. I applaud you on that.

Hey Tom.

Let's stay on point. And I have to come to my defense here, because that is not true - I never said that about the bolts.

I never said they were trying to hide the issue about the stainless bolts or "not communicate".

You are quoting something that was never said.

Let's keep this fair and honest.

Rock- Why do you have to start crap continuously? You have expressed very clearly you don't like Avant and you have said why. We hear you loud and clear so why don't you move on? There is no need to repeat yourself. Go post in another forum of a heli that you like and let the guys who like Avant get the correct info.

Jeez guys, I am an Avant fanboy too but Avant are selling this as the latest and greatest heli on the market. Seems a bit daft to me not to have gone with the hardened bolts from the outset!

Glad it has been fixed though and keep the updates coming. Really looking forward to getting one of these machines

When aling came out with the DFC head the grip arm bolts broke, they fixed it so what is the problem the kits will be fine they will have new bolts its not like they sent them out with weak bolts.

Maybe you should check out Avantrc.com. Rockohaulic is repeating what came directly from Avant. That would mean SOMEONE is keeping you informed. I came here to post link and rock was all over it guns blazing. The bolts bent from a severe overspeed from a very high speed pass into a violent transition and rpm screamed (vbar gov) The bolts being used were tested at 2550 headspeed and didn't bend but this particular situation did tweak them a little. This was the point of reps getting kits and hammering them to make sure it is good under varying styles. The kits will ship with the upgraded bolts so this not an issue at all. Frankly they could have not even said anything and nobody would have ever known but they were honest about everything including missing a couple of screws. So when they say nothing they are wrong and when they tell even more than they need to they are wrong. Got it.

Where's the damn nitro pics?? Did any of the Team pilots get nitros to test out? I am guessing NO. Sooooo, one can conclude that the nitro will not be shipping anytime soon, eh?

I prefer electric so I have 2 electric kits. I do know nitro kits are shipping 10 days after electric kits are released. Will see if I can get some pics of the nitro they were testing at factory.

I think that Avant is using excellent design and development philosophy. It is much better to get it right on paper, the lab and then the field before deploying any new product to the market. As is the case for all new designs, there will be weak spots that need to be fortified. This is a normal and expected process. The first units delivered to the factory pilots should be considered to be in the final phase of the factory testing and development project. They found a weak spot and they are taking action to correct it. Bravo! The next phase is early field trials where the machines are put to the test by the public. Yes expect some anomalies and issues that will be corrected. This the way it goes so expect to see more improvements and hardening of the machine.

I am always amazed at the people who know little about designing, developing and producing a product like this passing judgement on those who have. I think the design is a masterpiece. Personally I don't mind the delay in getting one. I don't mind the early units needing some improvements. I will get one as soon as possible and I accept the fact that there will be improvements or corrections to the design. If you want something that has been hardened and all the bugs fixed, then wait a year or two.

My hat is off to Avant and all their design, development and marketing team for doing it right. I think they have done a great job.
