I've broken down and stepped to the dark side..........Human powered R/C
The subject line is slightly B.S. to grab attention.
I have almost finished building my first electric
.
I am building a Mini Titan E360 FBL.
I'm sure I will enjoy electric as there is little down side. What few cons there are to electric are made up for by the pros.
My difficulty is in the simplicity of electric. I love my nitro engines and the bit of complexity that they add.

That said, I plan to really complicate electric.

My plan is to build a stationary bicycle-based charger. Then use my own energy to charge up the flight battery. Why not exercise body and mind with the same hobby. Would make for an interesting twist in competition..no?

Do you think you could get it up to 88mph to generate the necessary 1.21jigawatts to zap your pack?...

12 oz curls
I might be able to charge the backup battery in the transmitter with my 12oz curls from the couch

Wayne, I'm glad you got a 450, ERM, 360! The little guys really speed up your reflexes! Heck, you guys in Texas probably have enough room in the side yard to fly one of those

I forgot what it was but humans don't put out a lot (unless you take them to dinner) of watt hours. Let me go look it up.

Basic plan is to energize a 12 volt storage battery as an accumulator until sufficient energy is built up, then run it through a DC charger as usual. Real time direct charging for micros is a distinct possibility.
They have flown/demonstrated concept for a man-carrying human powered helicopter. Surely, even I should be able to charge a 450. lol
Thanks for checking into specifics Wabbit.

http://www.bikecult.com/bikecultboo...ecordsHour.html

Looks like 375-485 watts for a competition rider The site I found that link at mentioned somebody maintained that for 1 hr.

So 2100mAh x 11.1v = 23.31 watt hrs

5000mAh x 22.2v = 111 watt hrs

Wayne, you maybe on to something!

Me, I'm good for about 1.2 picowatt hrs, half that on Sunday.

That will be quite the setup to take to the field. Maybe this will catch on, IRCHA 2014, tent full of stationary bikes charging batteries. Maybe we could get the cub scouts to ride, or better yet bring back the Avant girls some of them were a little jiggly!

Seriously, sounds like a cool project.

I've got this.
This isn't me, but it will be soon. Probably not the phones and laptop, but a 12 volt battery will be charged....maybe two. Might need to chop the onion though........brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.
I'll have to make it look a bit more refined though......have welder.........

Whoa cool! I see a business in the making. A bunch of hot women peddling those to charge your lipos! Think of the crowd at a place like ircha.

I need something like that but with a paddle wheel or wind turbine. It would be perfect for a van down by the river

I think a bicycle being peddaled by some Avant girls, down by the river, would be more perfect...

But that's just me!
