I've been thinking about my spectra and can't decide if I should fly it or not. I'm also wondering if I should try to sell it. I don't really fly it much with the kids and wife keeping me busy and now with MA out of business? I'm thinking maybe I should just sell it and maybe once the kids grow up and I get more time I could get something new at that time.

Have any of you spectra owners checked on parts availability. I just looked around for a few spectra specific parts and I think some might be sold out. Are any of you going to keep flying like you did before? I haven't crashed my spectra since the first year I had it and that was probably 10 years ago so I think I feel safe flying it but now that I said that I'll probably crash it.

Do you have spares?
Get some if you don't have them. I have several spare parts and am continuing to fly it and the rest of my MA gassers until something new and good comes out.

You may not crash it and if you have some parts you might be able to last another 5 years with it who knows. I guess eventually for me when I find the next best gasser I'll think about selling mine. Right now my goal in my head is to get to 4000 flights on the 1005, 3000 on the Spectra and 1000 on the whiplash. That's 1282 flights total, last year I did 1205 flights so I might be 13 months out from that goal.

I can see why you would feel this way, but I personally don't own any MA ships. My opinion, however, is if you rarely fly it and have owned it for ten years- why suddenly sell this awesome machine now? Just grab a few replacement parts now and keep them on hand in case something happens. Or, if you do have a crash, your bird would probably still be worth alot to others just for the parts if you chose not to fix it. If you had been kinda thinking on selling this as you don't really fly it much anymore (sounds like you feel that way) and the MA news was the nudge you needed, then by all means go for it.

+1 to everyone else. No Spectra here, but I did manage to get enough parts for my new Whiplash to fix 2-3 good crashes. My plan is to fly it until I only have parts to fix it once more, then fix and sell it as a RTF airframe.

That might be in 6 months, or if I continue to fly it as carefully and cautions as I fly my giant plank that could be years and I might get bored of it and want to try something new before i wear it out (unlike the auto king I'm lucky to get a couple hundred flights in a year).

Go fly it!!

I bought parts for my Spectra before they shut down and I am sure Ron;s Heliproz still has parts. I am gonna fly my Spectra but go FBL this year with the HeliCommand and bail out feature,,,,,which I WILL NOT Hesitate to use !!!!!

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Fly it until spare parts are no longer available I think.
That's what I'll be doing anyway.

I have been sourcing parts though and in the last fortnight have managed to get hold of a spare boom, torque tube,a spare 92T main gear and a couple of the 70T crown gears.
A spare tail fin, horizontal fin and all the plastic tail end parts have also come my way.

I have had a complete MA flybarless head sat here ready to go on for ages so I think I must sort this out soon.

A bit of panic buying really and have done the same for my Whiplash.
All a bit of a nightmare situation really.

I also bought a mid sized electric to try stuff out on. A heli that I won't cry if I crash it...like my Spectra and 1005

I suppose the only way I'd really sell it was if the price was right, and right now I doubt I'd get what I want for it. I guess I'll just fly it once in awhile to get my fix for a big gas heli. I don't think I'll buy any extra parts for it. I'm just going to hope I don't crash.

If I did have spare parts what would I want to get? I'm thinking a tail boom, probably both the main gear and crown gear for sure. Main shaft, spindle, tail hub and shaft. I've had two crashes a long time ago and I never broke the TT. I just stripped the crown gear both times. I messed up some of the grip control arms and flybar parts but I think if that stuff gets damaged I could come up with something fbl to replace the tempest head. I did crack a frame side in one crash.

I've got a newer clutch liner so that should be good for a long time.
