The New York Times has finally conceded what critics of Obamacare have been claiming--the so-called "Affordable Care Act" devastates the country's middle class families who "are caught in the uncomfortable middle: not poor enough for help, but not rich enough to be indifferent to cost."

The Times profiles a family of four in New Hampshire with an annual income of around $100,000. Right now, "the cheapest insurance plan" they can find on the exchanges is about $1,000 a month. But if "they made just a few thousand dollars less a year — below $94,200 — their costs would be cut in half, because a family like theirs could qualify for federal subsidies."

"Many of the biggest provisions of the Affordable Care Act are aimed squarely at the poorest of Americans," the Times writes. "Under the law, states have the option of expanding Medicaid to a larger pool of people with the lowest incomes. To those earning more, the law provides subsidies to people earning up to four times the federal poverty level, or $45,960 for an individual and $62,040 for a couple."

But middle class Americans, with incomes much lower than the family of four in New Hampshire, will get decimated. An analysis by the Times found those in the middle class may have to pay nearly 20% of their income on Obamacare. To put that in perspective, "experts consider health insurance unaffordable once it exceeds 10 percent of annual income."

You and breitbart use the word "decimates", where the Times article says "Frustrates".

Do those words have the same meaning?

"Decimates" is a more accurate word in this context than "frustrates".

Most third graders know that decimates means "to remove a large portion of". Most middle class people are loosing "a large portion of" their income to pay for UNAFFORDABLE healthcare as a result of Obamacare. In other words, their income is being decimated by Obamacare.

Again, third grade stuff.

You missed the point. The Times wrote a reasonable assesment of the situation. Breitbart turned it into the END OF THE MIDDLE CLASS.

Depends on how much this crap affects you. Decimate vs Frustrate is really neutral if you can't afford it.

Breitbart made no such suggestion. In fact Breitbart's article is mostly cut and pasted FROM the NYTimes article, so basically they are the same article, Breitbart just chose a more accurate (and admittedly more dramatic) headline. It has been the Labor Unions that have made the claim that Obamacare will be "the end to the middle class." Most recent example.....

http://cdn.ralstonreports.com/sites...toAFL_FINAL.pdf

Quote from the report....."At the same time, without smart fixes,
the ACA threatens the middle class with higher premiums, loss
of hours, and a shift to part-time work and less comprehensive
coverage."

This law is SO AWESOME; it needs "smart fixes", and has had I think 28 unilateral EO's placed on it to delay portion after portion after portion and has had a thousand plus waivers granted. Law is law is law, right? What is good for the goose is apparently not so good for the gander.

Typical liberal democrat society. You either have to be poor or filthy rich to survive.

The first paragraph of the Breitbart article

That's not at all what the Times article said.

They didn't say the Times said that. They said the Times conceded what critics of Obamacare have been claiming.

Great, but that's not at all "what the Times article conceded."

The words devastation and decimates are strong words to describe something. Those words were not used by the Times. They are an attempt at sensationalism to fool readers. Apparently it works sometimes.

Well, there you go. Opinions differ.

Breitbart has an opinion on the meaning of the Times article.

You have a different opinion.

The Times article was a factual account of issues with the ACA. It was not an opinion piece. The Breitbart article was just an opinion. That's the key difference between journalism and sensationalism.

And there you go. The Times writes an article putting in the information they want and censoring out what they don't want as the constitution gives them that right.

Then Breitbart reads the Times article and gives his constitutionally guaranteed opinion.

And then you give your constitutionally guaranteed opinion on Breitbart's opinion.

This all seems to work well.
