Some answers foundI think I found a couple answers by reading other threads and doing testing.
First, the issue tail issue can be corrected by raising the I gain after the P gain is set. (and tail wag may not happen with the P gain all the way up when just hovering. Forward flight may show the wag if the p gain is maxed though.)
Second, the pitch pre-compensation and cyclic pre-compensation are only for 3d flight. This is because they work off the throttle/cyclic being at center-stick/50%. Move the throttle up from 50% and the tail will compensate; move the stick below 50% and the tail will compensate the same as if the heli were inverted. (I think this is a bug to allow the Ikon software wizard to allow selection of "beginner" in flight mode and also cyclic and pitch precomp in the tail settings.) If you have tail precomps set and are taking off from zero throttle position, then the precomps will be compensating incorrectly until you hit 50% stick position and will be incorrect if you drop the stick below 50%/mid position.
