The XFC Knowns are posted for 2014!

Remember, the LCQ is still open for everybody to take a shot at competing!

Flown in the order listed!! The competitor must complete all maneuvers in his 3 minute flight window. If a maneuver is not completed, it will be a downgrade to his overall score.

*Single Pirouette Hurricane

The model enters from either direction, and MUST enter inverted.
Centered in front of the pilot, the model enters an inverted hurricane while performing a slow pirouette. The model must perform 1/4 pirouette per 90 degrees of hurricane. The 1/4 pirouette must consume the entire 90-degree section of the hurricane.
The pilot must make a momentary hesitation to accentuate the reaching of each 1/4 pirouette/90 degree hurricane (such as a 4 point roll). The hurricane must be a minimum of 300 feet (100 yards/91 meters) in diameter. After the first single pirouette hurricane has been completed, the pilot must reverse the rudder and perform an additional single pirouette hurricane.
Judging will be based on:
The centering and height of the maneuver
The correct size of the maneuver
Momentary hesitations performed at precisely 90 degrees with rudder in the precise position.

*Backwards Rolling Loop with Roll Reversal

The model enters from either direction right or left in fast backwards flight. When the model crosses the center line the pilot starts the first backwards rolling loop. After the first loop is completed and the model passes the center line, the pilot starts the second backwards-rolling loop while rolling in the opposite direction. After the model completes the second loop and crosses the center line the maneuver is complete.
Judging will be based on:
Centering of the maneuver
Symmetry of the maneuver
Speed Symmetry the same in both loops
Symmetry of roll speed throughout the loops

*Funnel Loop with reversal

Model starts centered in front of the pilot in a hover, with the tail pointing to the right. The pilot than uses back elevator and starts an (outside) tail down funnel using right aileron. After completing two stationary funnels in front of the pilot, the model starts the funneling loop in a counter clockwise rotation. At the 180 degree point at the top of the loop, the pilot switches funnel direction now using left aileron. He then finishes the second part of the funneling loop and ends on the center line in front of the pilot and back to the original position.
Judging will be based on:
Centering of the maneuver
Symmetry of the maneuver
Speed Symmetry the same speed in both funnel directions

*Cobra Roll with 270 degree flip

Model flies straight and level for a minimum of 50 feet. Pilot pulls up to establish a 45 degree line. The pilot then performs a 180 degree roll (centered) to inverted, and continues to the apex. At the apex the pilot performs a 270 deg flip. The pilot then enters a 45 degree down line with a (centered) 180 degree roll back to the same altitude as the entry. The pilot finishes the maneuver with straight and level flight for minimum of 50 feet.
Judging will be based on:
Centering of the maneuver
Symmetry of the maneuver
Stationary position of the flip
45 degree lines during the maneuver

*Backwards Inverted 180 Degree Auto-rotation

Model enters from either direction in fast backwards inverted flight. As the model hits the center line the pilot then hits throttle hold starting the auto-rotation. The pilot then autos the model through a 180-degree circle. After the model completes 90 degrees of the half circle, the pilot executes a half roll and lands on the center line in front of the pilot.
Judging will be based on:
Centering of the maneuver
Descent rate
Symmetry of the maneuver
Landing on the center line
Touch down should be soft and graceful

You mean 4 or 5? Is never been at 3.

Used to be on site 5, last year they moved to site 4, same place as the Jamboree.

I would think they are staying at 4.

Does anyone know what time the competition usually wraps up on Sunday? I see the the known round starts and 8:00 and the unknown at 10:00, so is it over by about 12:00 noon? And will the helis or airplanes fly first?

Also, has anyone ever flown full-scale into Reese Airport (7I2) just to the south of the AMA headquarters? I would like to know if it gets busy or if there are any special NOTAMs due to the RC event.

When I was there a couple years ago I drove over and it seemed pretty sleepy. Call the owner of the FBO and talk to him. I think Matt Chapman may have landed there after doing his show with Uncle Frank. I think that would be a great way to attend XFC. I wager that the AMA and Reese work closely together so you could also call AMA headquarters.

FYI; there is an EAA Young Eagles flight program going on that Saturday at Reese Airport. I doubt it warrants any kinds of NOTAMS, but just be aware that at least in the morning to mid afternoon it will be a little busier than normal. The airport beyond that is very sleepy and doesn't have much traffic at all. You would most likely have to find your own way to and from Reese, however; AMA does not coordinate trips back and forth or shuttles to the airport. It's a fairly good hike by foot, too.

Volare, the competition goes until it's over on Sunday. If I remember from last year, awards were handed out around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Flight order isn't drawn until the night before when it's announced who has made the finals.

The last flight of the finals is usually around 2:00 on Sunday.

As far as the flight order, that's determined at the announcement of the finalist on Saturday evening with a coin flip.

Reese airport is very laid back. However, the strip is narrow and last time I checked wasn't in the greatest condition. I believe there is a parallel grass runway next to it, but not 100% sure.
