My Phantom 1 is loaded with zenmuse gimbals, Go Pro and transmitter for FPV. The flight time is way too short now as I am sucking power with all these extras. Is there any way I can increase flight time?

Better bigger battery?

Ok, I tried sending it to both of you but the battery went flat after 3 minutes and it went into autoland.

I'm interested in improving the flight time, too.

The Phantom 2 uses a 5200mAh battery, and DJI claims 25 minutes of flight time. I don't know how the motors or props compare between the Phantom 1 and the Phantom 2. If you have time to pursue it, compare the specs on the motors and props to see if there is any significant difference there, or if the flight time is strictly due to a larger battery. Would also be interested to know if the Phantom 2 battery is 3S like the Phantom, or higher voltage, since higher voltage will provide an additional flight time boost for a given battery capacity.

So maybe, you could replace the motors (if necessary) and the ESC's (if necessary) and props (if necessary) from the Phantom 2 on your Phantom 1, and get the increased flight time. I don't know what else you could do, short of replacing the whole thing with a Phantom 2, which I understand wasn't exactly your goal.

If you do end up reading the specs and spotting anything useful, let us know. If I end up doing it before you, I'll post here.

Dual battery mount
Take a look at part number HWC2037C on http://www.heli-world.com. It is a dual battery mount for the Phantom 1. That may solve the flight duration problem.

I have a phantom 1 and a vision. I also outfitted my phantom 1 with a dual battery tray. Did it increase the flight time, yes but it also made the phantom harder to fly. It was noticeably heavier with or without the gopro on it and it and took a lot more throttle to keep it hovering.

I don't know the specs of the motors but the stock blades on the vision are 9" long and they don't have the same shape as the phantom 1's blades. Putting the battery in the center with some overhang to the rear and possibly countering the weight with the camera may have helped it overcome the problems I experienced when I added a second battery to my phantom 1.

I have not opened the vision up but the claim of 25 mins flight time is true. Mine is still set to warn me when the battery reaches 30% but unlike the fat shark system, the vision's system provides a lot of telemetry including battery life, camera status, speed, distance, altitude, quasi radar, etc.

If I have any regrets its that I didn't buy the vision first but I gave my phantom 1 to my son and we are having a blast with them both. I may add a fat shark system with goggles to his phantom in the future. I use and iPad mini with my vision but feel that flying via fpv would be easier with the goggles.
