One of the aerial composites I made from today's flights. A total of 66 images taken with a GoPro Black on a stabilized gimbal from 300 feet were stitched together using the MicroSoft Image Composite Editor (freeware). The aircraft was my DJI 550 hexcopter operated fully autonomously on an iPAD based ground station and datalink using the "search pattern" route template. GP was set to intervalometer mode, 5 sec trigger.

Very cool. What do the single images look like compared to the composite?

Thanks,
John

They look the same for the most part. The Composite Editor will use the best images with the best overlaps. Putting 100 images into the editor will not necessarily result in all 100 images being used.

Of course, the single, raw images still have the curve distortions from the wide angle lens on the GoPro, which ICE flattens out in the composite. The edges of the composite will have the most distortions due to not having bordering images with which to stitch against.

When I make a composite I save in TIFF format instead of JPEG so there is no waste in compression.
