I've seen a number of times where the logging feature of the pro software was needed to spot and diagnose problems not related to the airframe. And here's the key, a lot of the people who bought the express didn't even know there was an upgrade and what it could do at the time of purchase. They sometimes were told they don't need it...until they do need it.
I agree with this statement 100% that's why you need the pro software
You are kidding right??? You act as if the VBAR did not fly perfectly without the pro software.
No not kidding at all, many times the Pro software was needed to unlock the V-bar's fullest potential without spending $45 more it was not possible, I call that intentionally limiting the product don't see it any other way.

So you are saying if I handed you two different Helis, one with pro and one with express you could tell how they fly without knowing which one was which? What was that issue not airframe related you speak of?

Let me put it this way I did not like the way the Express software flew unit I could do more advanced adjustments in the Pro software that are simply unavailable in the express. I call that intentionally limiting the product.

Of course it's intentionally limiting the product. The Pro software doesn't physically change anything in the unit. They get their foot in the door with the express, then when you see all the cool features in the Pro upgrade you give them the money to upgrade. Saying that selling the unit with just Express is not intentionally limiting the product is just absurd.

Not to hurt anyones feelings, but I know guys that just are not smart enough to understand or use the pro adjustments.
Selling them a Vbar for $50 more is what would be absurd.

You can always vote with your wallet if you don't like the way Mikado has priced their unit, just don't buy one.

Having a "standard" and "pro" version of software is a common business practice. It gets the price down for folks that don't care about (or understand) the "pro" features while giving the rest of us additional features that we're willing to pay for.

In the grand scheme of $2000 toy helicopters (which most of us have 3 or more) I don't think the extra $50 is a big deal.

I have been flying Vbar since v3.x and have tried most of the current FBL systems. There is a reason my heli's still have Vbars on them. I have also flown heli's with just Express and they flew great. One of the best flying heli's I recall was a Trex 550 with Express. That heli won the unofficial IRCHA speed cup 3 years ago at just under 100 mph (this was before Santiago began the current speed cups).

Some in this thread make it sound like Express is crap but for the majority of users Express is perfectly fine. Personally I think the logging and expo settings should be standard but it's not my call. Having talked to Ralf, Mr. Mel, and others at numerous IRCHA's I know the amount of development that has gone into the software. Everyone makes a big deal about the hardware that is used but IMHO it is the software that makes or breaks a FBL system. Does anyone honestly believe the Futaba 750 and Silverline Vbar fly the same since they use the same sensor technology?

Boy did this thread get off course!

Let's hope Mikado gets their distribution plan out there so that people can stop justifying why they don't like a product they can't or won't buy. I've got 4 Mikado ships and I must say they've got great products and I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading.

hey fellow mikado owners check this out, its from their site.. so seems like someone is taking the rains..

For immediate release
Regarding: Sale of Mikado Model Helicopters products in the USA

Effective December 31st 2013, Mikado Model Helicopters GmbH officially ends North American partnership with ReadyHeli.com. Due to unfortunate events, partnership with ReadyHeli.com was no longer parallel with the business directions of both parties. We would like to thank ReadyHeli.com for their continued support over the years.
To ensure continued stock of inventory offerings, competitive pricing, and unparalleled after-sales support, Mikado Model Helicopters have decided to work in close relation with a North American vendor, who focuses, with factory-backed support, on the Mikado Helicopter brand. The entire line of Mikado's product & support will become available in the North American market from the new vendor in January 2014, with qualified logistics already in place.
Earlier this year, Mikado Model Helicopters headquarters in Germany, in order to streamline production & order processing, debuted their own freestanding warehouse facility in Potsdam Germany, thereby implementing larger production & storage facilities. We are very excited about all of these developments. In our daily work we focus on making innovative helicopter products, and we can already promise new and very exciting Mikado products coming to the market for the 2014 season.

Thank you for your patience and support during this transition period.

Sincerely,
Mikado Model Helicopters

Using that logic then every conceivable feature, although not implemented, but could be implemented on the hardware platform could be construed as "limiting the product".

Truth be told, this isn't limiting the product at all. You pay a price and you receive X feature set. You pay an additional price you receive the additional Y feature set. We should be fortunate the additional feature sets are available for a modest price and do not require a new hardware purchase.

Lastly, in the software industry, this is the way almost all commercial software product licensing works. Many software products have the same core foundation. You pay extra for extra features included in different versions. It's a simple as that.

I just wanna know where my parts will be coming from!

I have high hopes it is Experience! They are a good vendor with awesome CS and fast shipping! from a post by DD on HF this might be the case...
this hinges on who will be running the show...and that person has a well-deserved outstanding past reputation of handling Mikado's products and servicing the customer
Isn't Experience in league with fast lad? and they carry Mikado? Yes?

It's more that just my opinion. Just take a look at Windows 7 for example. They have the six versions listed below which are all built on the same core foundation. Each version up the chain provides additional/different features and costs extra accordingly.

1) Enterprise
2) Ultimate
3) Professional
4) Home Premium
5) Home Basic
6) Starter
