Love to see towerhobbies pick up mikado.
Doubt that will happen, but I sure would love the 20 off 50 coupons even more!

I love how you can consider TH an evil empire. My point is that who every pick them it should not be exclusive. This way mom and pop hobby stores can carry the parts and kits. This was the main issue with RH. No one else could them the kits.

I'd like it to be a company that actually understands the RC Helicopter business, and who is in the business for the long haul. Great Planes/Tower Hobbies just doesn't scream Heli Expert to me.
What's your definition of a company that understands the RC helicopter business?

Tower Hobbies been around since the early 1970s. Every hobby shop I now can order through Tower Hobbies. Their website lists stock status, availability dates, etc. They've also done a great job carrying the Thunder Tiger Raptor line. Their website even allows you to order items on back-order which many other stores do not allow. Their customer service is good and returns don't require an RMA.

Good point on the back order thing. The shops that adopted the "we'll sell you what we have" really annoy me. It takes an extra level of service to be able to back order...especially if the order can be completed in a timely fashion.

I love all the FUD being spread. Mikado is as popular as it has ever been in the U.S. Does anyone honestly believe they don't have a plan already in place? Rumor on the other site is they have a U.S. distribution facility about to come online. Wouldn't surprise me at all if a new Mikado USA run by the Dahl's doesn't appear soon.

Then there is Horizon. Everyone speculated on why they needed the cash infusion and this could very easily be it.

Mikado is as popular as it has ever been
Sorry could not possibly disagree any more with this statement "Mikado is not as popular as it has ever been", V-bar has slipped big time, Logo's are far and few between at the local flying fields at least in South Florida and we have an all year long flying season. Most of our fields are infested with Goblins now.

Low cost FBL units have eaten away at the V-bar's supremacy, at my field alone at least 20-25 V-bars have been dumped by guys that have been flying them for years and years in favor of another brand (that I will not mention). Not one of these experienced heli pilots have looked back or would touch a V-bar as of now.

I have sold of one V-bar's and am tying brand X if and if I like it then I too will make the switch I am the only one what has held on this long.

For years I have been saying Mikado's tactics of selling you a PRO software was borderline ripping off the consumer and I am not alone with this thought process. Sell the consumer a product and intentional limit it for a future sale is padding your pockets in an unethical manner. Its kind of funny V-bar minis sold for $299 now they are $199 (as I recall) the overpriced Bluetooth modules now sell for half of their original asking price. Its supply and demand their demand is not what it was and now the prices have been lowered accordingly.

In terms of quality its subjective. For me I am less than impressed with Mikado helis. Having built a TDR a true quality German heli I find Mikado to be lack luster for their asking prices.

ReadyHeli did a great job with the brand during their time I have noting negative to say. If anything they promoted the brand in a positive light.

Ugly can be fixed stupid is forever!

I agree that Mikado is not as popular either. I fly in the northern Midwest and at all the fun flys there is only one guy that shows up with the logo helis. Otherwise none. I don't know if I agree with the vbar statement. I do believe there are fewer sold because of the cheaper flybarless systems but I have tried several different ones and the cgy 750 is the only one close. I have tried Ikon and ebar also. Ebar being the only really cheap one I have tried and have flown the beastx and the 3gx. There is none that work as good as vbar. Now that being said it all depends on your flying style. If you are just smacking it around and that is it then it don't matter. For us my kid is wanting to fly in the xfc and the vbar is the only one I have been able to completely tune to make it smooth along with being able to smack it. The cgy 750 is the only other one I could get to work well that way. I don't look for Mikado to go with someone else and then see a huge rise in helis at the fun flies. They are just too expensive for most ppl. In looking at the prices you can get several helis that are just as good for less money. Also I hate the idea of the only combo set being sold. Align is doing the same thing and I don't want their servos, motor, esc or the 3gx. I think that is a flop for them and it is a flop for Mikado.

^ disagree , the customer service has always been Mikado ,RH got advertisement from Mikado . Mikado has always been ahead of anyone in the technology department . Just because the price is not what you think it should be doesent make their products inferior or a rip off . Mikado had FBL before any others and set the wheel in motion . If you came up with a product and took over 10 years to design and other companies produced half the quality for 1/2 the price why should you lower your price or quality to compete. Mikado has stayed true to their model and are still popular . IMO no fbl unit has come close to Mikados technology .

I was there when Mikado came out with first FBL system as well as being there when RH started and if anything the partnership benefited both parties .Niether will fail because one of the other ,it will be from their individual decisions .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

Jeff I hope you weren't referring to me saying it was a rip off. I am not saying that. I have had great customer service with Mikado and RH. I do agree that the pro software should be just in there tho but yes there is none better than vbar. I don't think ppl should be making things exclusive tho and like Align making only the combo package. I think this works against them. Kind of like the cgy 750 being used only with futaba or an sbus system which at that time they only had. It limits what it can be used for or with. Unfortunatly for Mikado and the other high end equipment ppl choose cheap over quality. I have friends here that will spend 900 on a heli only to put the cheapest servos they can find and a 40 dollar flybarless system on it and then wonder why it don't work and crashes. Vbar is still the best and you get what you pay for.

Parts, Parts, and more parts. That seems to be the overriding concern for most of us. Say what you want about Align, but if I need parts, I can just go down to my local 7-11 and pick them up. Well, it almost seems that easy.

You are right there they have parts. I have two Align helis and love them. Thing is I bought them before the combo kits. I will keep rebuilding them till there is nothing left of them. Just wont buy the combo kit. I am not knocking the Align or the Mikado guys I just don't like the idea that to have one now I have to buy all their stuff. I think that should be an option but not mandatory.

Well, I guess the question about if it's just a change in exclusivity has been answered. Looks like there's some pruning going on over at RH.

Regarding advertising, I agree. Mikado is king at this. But I also like RH's advertising. I think they bring a nice touch.

And you are right Bob. Ready Heli needs to sell what is selling right now along with other hobby shops. The one in Des Moines is selling the crap out of quad copters and that kind of stuff. They carry like one 700 and a 500 and that is it and they have been there for a while. In the meantime they sold 40 little quad copters in one day. I think that Ready heli is doing what they need to survive. You are not going to make it on nothing but high end helis alone. I guess that is what I was trying to say earlier.

LaDon, you reminded me when someone showed up with a Kasama and took canopy off and had the knock off ,cheapest electronics and wondered why mine flew perfect and theirs didn't . I would tell them it was their choice of electronics and got the ole electronics have nothing to do with the way it flys .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)
