Hi all,
I just wanted to share on how to make a speKtrum module work with futaba
Please don't do this modification if you're not some what tech savvy.
Enjoy
Edit. I only did this mod to link with the smaller Helis that do not use receivers and are bind and fly

I am open to questions and suggestions if you have any... I really just wanted to be able to fly my Nano and Micro / MCPX Helis witout having to buy a second radio i.e. Spektrum or Hitech or other type just to fly my current fleet.

Will this work on a 7c? One problem might be is that you can't remap the channels like you can on the 8fg. What module did you use? Orange?

Hi Brian,
The wiring will be the same, however you need to reassign the channels, if that is not possible, then the Heli will not fly properly. Sorry.
Yes the module was the Orange from hobby king, but the wiring works the same for the original Spektrum module as well.

This was quoted by another user and I should have included this so anyone having trouble please see Ed's notes, because I failed to include this in my "how to video" thanks.

[QUOTE=lcc014;5581336]I followed Al's instruction and modified the Orange Tx module (Futaba version). The modified module worked however, there was an issue to bind this module to Nano CPX. Here are the pictures of the mod. module:

"I had tried all 4 modes of the Orange JR Tx module but could not get the module to bind to Nano. I even followed the Nano CPX user manual to bind but no luck.

After searching in Internet, I saw a post mentioned about Throttle channel could be reversed. So I reversed throttle channel and module bound to Nano CPX right away. I did not need to move/hold the rudder stick to the full right to wait for binding to happen. All I had to do was to hold the bind button on the module and turned on the module. Bind button was released until binding completed. It took less than 10 seconds to bind to Nano.

The mode that I used to bind to Nano was DSMX 22ms (2 flashing LED on the module).

Also, I had to reverse all the channel in 8FG including Aileron, Elevator, Rudder and Pitch. Throttle was already reversed.

Hope this help to member to bind this module to Nano."

Cudos for ingenuity!!!
So the purpose of this is to be able to fly bind-n-fly toys with a futaba tx by just adding a module, not bypass or kill FASST protocol, I'm i right?

Hi S,
unfortunately, this MOD leaves you at the mercy of the Spektrum signal, but with the added benefit of using your own Futaba radio to enjoy all the Bind and fly toys on the market (strongly recommend small models only) without having to buy a new Radio system.
But when using your other models with Genuine Futaba receivers you are back to the FASST protocol

That's what I thought. (I would have gotten the answer from the video if my phone played it through at the time)

Thanks for taking the time to share. Very good stuff.

Hi all,
I just wanted to share on how to make a speKtrum module work with futaba
I bought this and the "Programmer to set channel assignment.
A futaba T9CHP does not have built in channel re-assignment capabilities, sooooo.
I bought the programmer, followed on line instructions.
Had a gut feeling this was not going to work, because it should have bound with my receiver even with the wrong channel assignments. The programmer refused to connect the trx'vr
to the computer. I am a certified tech and ham radio guy, I understand this stuff. Now is it the programmer or the trx'vr ?
My guess is the trx'vr because it wont bind at all, if it's cooked,
why would I expect the internal net terminal to shake hands?
75 bucks circling the drain.
The unit came from an ebay'er and had not plastic wrapping or instructions, I had that feeling I was getting a unit that was sent back and re-branded and shipped. Now it's a hundred twenty bucks for a spektrum mod, 40 more then a spektrum radio!!!
I hate to toss a 400 dollar Futaba radio in the trash, but it's looking like the cheapest solution. All this flub dubbing around I could have got a spektrum DX6i and be done with it.
I just hate to bring two radios to the field.
This TJ8 futaba upgrade is my LAST futaba, They refuse to support Bind and fly to an arrogant level.

And I thought that I Would never CRASH!!!

If you want to fly Spektrum bind and fly products, buy a Spektrum radio. There is nothing arrogant about Futaba not supporting another mfg's 2.4 gHz protocol. Indeed, portions of the Spektrum Model Match technology are actually under patent, making it illegal to copy parts of the execution of their protocol. Mikado doesn't support bind and fly. Jeti doesn't. The newest JR DMSS stuff doesn't/didn't either. Are they arrogant as well?

If you want to fly Spektrum bind and fly products,
If you want to succeed in business you do not surpress and belittle the voices of your customers with bs, which is what your reply did so well.
Just short of calling the customer a moron, Well, There's a great business model...

And I thought that I Would never CRASH!!!

Is the modification you're doing legal?

Mastercrash,

Check a couple thousand posts over a decade by me supporting any and all products with good faith answers while never bashing and ask a few dozen (or hundred) people if they think I give BS information. It's not BS to state you cannot expect Futaba to support their direct competitor's product line's 2.4 gHz protocol. I can guarandamntee you that Spektrum would laugh in your face if the situation were reversed and you asked them to support Futaba's protocol. Furthermore, Spektrum/Horizon would see Futaba in court if Futaba copied their protocol, included it in a Futaba radio, and advertised using Horizon's trademarks such as bind and fly. This is propriety technology that companies spend millions to develop. They ain't sharing anything. My stating that is not bs; it's fact.
