How different is the 500DFC to the 550DFC?
Hi,

I'm going to by a DFC, but not sure to get the 550 or 500 ??

Do they feel much different to fly?
How do the take a crash?

Thanks.

I have both.. The 550 is a lot bigger and a very smooth flyer. The 500 is less expensive to fix after a crash which makes it a good choice. Both are great, just buy the one you can afford. Also the 500 batteries are cheaper..

Crash costs are too similar for the size difference IMO. The 550 looks/feels like a 600 in the air. Now that 6s 5000 lipos are getting more affordable, this size heli is much cheaper to outfit than it was in the past. It also flies much more like a 600 size machine compared to the 500 which feels more like an over-size 450.

I crashed my 500 twice. Both times broke the frames, damaged the lipo, stripped the tail gears, tweaked the headblocks and bent most of the normal items. The cost to fix was much more than I anticipated from a heli this size. I can't comment on crashing my 550, I have managed to keep it out of the dirt although I am sure it will happen someday. The updated 2mm frames, stiffener plate and large canopy have helped the crashabillity quite a bit since the original 550. I have seen one of the v1s crash at our club and it was pretty severe. Many frame parts, both frame sides, bottom plate, boom/tt/supports and most gears could not be used for the rebuild.

I have had both and if you can afford the 550 go with it. The 500 is a great machine but the 550 feels much bigger in the air.and the blonde said "RECTUM, Hell damn near killed em!!"
