CSM CarbSmart
hey there, i recently ran across this product, again some years later, and was wondering if these would do any good on today's engines. i fly an OS 105 and an OS 55. the weather i fly in is anywhere from 100f to 0f. any advantage? or is this a thing of the past...

I always had good luck with them. The key is to mount the temp sensor very good. That was the weak point of the system- failing sensors.-Ryan

If your not a good tuner sensor will fail and smoke motor . Their purpose is for keeping the motor on the lean side for performance richening according to temp or leaning . Motors lean with altitude so just buy a temp gun and test and tune by temps .I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

used one,

works but it's not the best way to keep engine cool but running it rich.
it produce inconsistent power.

better to have a good fan and tune for max power.

dont be afraid of 130C head temp. It did not hurt my os 50
It was tuned to the absolute max power with no harms.
I ran 30 gallons in it with no problems.

Too lean does not produce as much power. run hotter use less fuel
too rich does not produce as much power. run cooler use more fuel

Carb smart is good only if you have a deficient cooling system fan and ducts. You need than to use fuel to cool engine instead.

Proper break in, then tune for max power.
Each day will need a different tune. something like +/- 2 clicks on the main needle depending on the weather conditions.

If you dont adjust it, no problems, you just dont get as much power but you dont blow it.

thanks for the reply's guys. i have absolutely no issue tuning a nitro motor, been doing so for 15 years and have not wrecked one yet. so this more than likely is not going to benefit me much. i did end up buying a unit to try out someday if need be. the price was right

heck maybe i could even stick it on a plane or a car
