Just how good is the 550DFC?
Hi, I'm looking to buy a full 550 combo, but I'm torn between the Logo, E5 and DFC.

Just how does the DFC compared to the other two in my line up? I must admit that the much lower cost of the DFC is appealing, but it's still a huge hill of cash to spend on something I'm going to be disappointed in.

I'm told the Logo is of very high quality and is a build and forget model with all the combo electronics. Can't find much info on the E5 other than it's heavy.

The DFC is basically a cheap hak heli, but how good does it fly compared to the Logo and E5? Does the DFC wear out quickly or totally distroy itself on the smallest crash ???

Thanks for any info you can give.

I don't think you would be disappointed with the Align 550 however you might want to post your question in the Logo and Synergy forums. I'd say it comes down to how deep your pockets are.

The Align heli's are on par or better than the brands you mentioned.

Anyone who tells you different is either a rep / pimp or someone with more money than sense, who wants to rationalize their expenditure.

Buy with confidence.

That's a load...sounds like something that an Align pimp would say!

A few guys here have 550s and like them a lot, but it's not the same quality as a Logo...not even close.

I own both Align and Logo by the way.

I own both Align and Logo and like them both for different reasons.

A few thoughts:

Align
- new models keep coming out, which makes the one you own lose its value faster
- parts are ubiquitous and never out of stock
- the 550 specifically has convenient battery location
- good value for money

Logo
- low part count, easy to build, easy to fix
- slower introduction of new models, so keep its value better
- parts can be hard to get
- battery compartment is tight for regular 6S (worse for a 12S setup)

True.

What "looks" better to you? Really. I know E5 owners, logo, and Align, they all love what they fly. Synergy is a tight group, you will receive top notch service and parts. Owned a 550 previously, no issues, regret selling it, flat out truth. Logo is a simple design, just plain works too. Fly what you like with parts availability in your area.

I have an Align 550, e5 & Logo 500. They all have their ups and downs. My Align gets the most flight time because it is the best compromise for me. None of these 3 helis are the "best" IMO, they are all good or bad in one area or another. All 3 fly extremely well, it is hard to be dissapointed with any of them when properly set up, they are just different.

I have a 550e DFC with 100+ flights and very very happy with it. I wanted to chime in with a different view: how it does in a crash - survivability. I have had 2 crashes (that's it believe it or not) this year. The first was tail down and of course destroyed the tail boom, torque tube, stripped main gear, etc., but the rest of the heli was undamaged. At this time, I decided to convert to belt drive only because I got sick of changing that front tube drive gear when it got stripped. Even a minor hard set down where it bumped the tail blades (not a crash) stripped that front gear. (Weak point IMO). I figured the next time I wrecked would be a lot cheaper with a belt...

I recently had the 2nd crash, not tail down fortunately. Only damage: main blades, 1 busted ball link, and the tail belt ripped apart - I think when the tail blades did bump the ground - not sure. Nothing else, not even the main gear. Landing gear OK, Canopy OK, but chipped paint I got new DT 520 blades and the belt from onlyfinehelis for a total of $50. Not bad.

I have put the tail in big time totally destroying the tail boom-----I mean folded up like an accordion and the belt survived, how did you manage to tear up a belt and the tail drive survived?

Not sure - it was pulled apart between 2 of the teeth. There was no damage to the tail boom or the tail blades. The wreck was a minor boom strike where when the thing landed one of the mains folded back and stuck the tail, but just a minor dent with some white on it... I guess things came to a stop so abruptly, the belt snapped. "Fortunately", in this case, the battery slipped forward and pulled the connector apart so engine stopped immediately.TREX 700e, Goblins 500 & 570, DT520e, Gaui X3, Synergy E5

My Trex 550 dfc v3 was my first big heli. I think it flies and crashes great. Let's not forget the importance of the fbl unit controlling the heli. My 550 has a mini vbar. I've never heard good things about the 3gx so I bought the combo with no fbl unit.

Crashing-I've literally cartwheeled mine end over end on an auto and only had to replace the tail gears. Also, I've drug the tail on several autos and only had to replace tail blades, if anything at all. Other times I've bent dfc links. Align parts are cheap and I keep sets of dfc links, and a servo, ready to go in my field box.

That being said my next heli will likely be a synergy E7se. I think if you look at one up close you'll see there is no comparison in quality. Synergy helis are built like tanks. And I'd buy a logo 550sx because they look cool and are unique. But guess what? I'd hate to crash either of those helis. Not so with the align, I fly it confidently.
I love flying, I hate gravity.

Out of the 3 ide have either the E5 or the Logo 550SX. Probably more towards the Logo because its much cheaper as it comes with Edge main and tail blades, much lighter, quieter in the air, Mikado have been doing E helis since forever nearly and I prefer a belt drive tail for robustness.60% of the time, it works every time!
