email notifications/pm replies going to trash
I can't seem to find where to stop email notifications. How do i stop them?

Also when i reply to a pm the message goes to the trash automatically. How do i stop this? I want messages to stay in my inbox until i delete them myself.

Go to "myHome" and then "Edit Options (notification)." https://rc.runryder.com/rr/member.htm?do=editoptions

I don't see any option to stop email notifications.

The drop down's only go to a month max. Why isn't there a "never" option.

Oh. I see. I suppose Mark could not conceive of someone who is on RR not wanting notifications. Heck, mine are set to immediate.

It will do that if you have "Save Copy" selected.

Unselect "Save Copy."

I have mine set to once a month, and I've never receive one, except for PMs. But I've never been away from this site for more than a few days.

So...

1. I can't disable emails.
2. I can't save original messages without sacrificing the reply.
3. Everything i had saved that's more than 3 years old is gone. NO WARNING, JUST GONE!

This is a major FAIL! I can deal with the first two but to just delete everything over 3 years old with no warning, that's just WRONG.

The original messages still exist. Read the link Mark gave for that.

Yep. I lost a lot of good stuff.

I agree with you!... It's a pain!... Once I read my inbox, it goes to "Read" part, so if I wanna reply to the guy again, I have to open what I've read before, but then it shows my reply to the guy only and if I hit reply, it goes to me instead!!!... So now I have to click his name, create a new PM again!... This is horrible!Demon in ME... Kosmik = Kostme

The RR PM system is extremely effective and to the point. One thing to note is the number link (all pms grouped for the member) next to member names in the PM areas.

I'M sure, but doesnt make it easy to understand nor 'articulate'.

Ive been on here 9 years, and the pm system is hard work.

I would rather clean my own in/out box, spend way too much time shuffling through read and trash boxes trying to find something.

Great site . PM system is crap.

sorry

Somebody is confused here. I see very little reason to go to the trash folder. By default, everything ends up in the sent folder. Then in the sent folder review all PM's for a particular member by clicking the number link next to the member name.

Inbox should be inbox. (what's someone's sent you)
Outbox should be outbox. (what you have been sent)
Trash. should be what you delete.

Someone show that is how it work's, and ill go hide

Youre right, my apologies, its only me that doesn't get it.

Mark,
As grand architect and sole proprietor of this site, you have every right to make it work the way you want. However, do not ever believe that a method of operation that makes complete sense to you makes sense to anyone else.

The RR PM system simply does not follow any common concept of message management. It just doesn't.

Perhaps you could simply offer an option so that users can turn off the automatic message handling.

One thing that is driving design is that RR puts no limits on PM usage. Moving the replied to PM to trash is part of this design. The most recent sent version of your PM conversation is found in the sent folder. The system works. I use Outlook Mail, Gmail and the RR PM system alot! Again, someone is confused.Mark Ryder

Sounds like the "design" is somehow meant to reduce storage/bandwidth of the website but at the expense of ease of use and control by the end user.

If the current PM system is more cost effective for the owner/moderator then so be it. But you're wasting your time trying to convince us it is better for us, the end user.

But you're wasting your time trying to convince us it is better for us, the end user.
Sending and receiving RR PM's works and without limits.

RR helps you stay organized with a tidy (empty) inbox and a sent folder that contains only the latest iteration of your conversations. Automatically moving to trash redundant copies of your conversations is for your own good. It's easy to see the older trashed PMs by clicking the number link next to the member name. The RR PM inbox could be considered a to-do list. Reply to the PM's in it until your inbox is empty.

If you readjust your thinking about the RR way of PM'ing, please re-articulate the perceived inefficiencies.
