Tarot zxy-gs cooked pan servo
Hi,
I was struggling setting it up on the PC to work on PS1 3X-pro mount (I have had this mount 2 years now). The servos are all springrc continuous rot. I just could not to get it to work smooth and the thing seemed to have a mind of it's own. Then I smelled that typical cooked circuit when roll servo jammed for good. I don't know what I have done wrong. I will be happy if anybody can help.
Regards,
Ahmet

you have to set the frequency and servo type in the zyx programming BEFORE you hook up the servos

Isaw this a week or so back and didn't remember I also fried one or two servos by hooking them up and then plugging in the gyro to power.

All frequencies must match servo specs before initiating. The roll servo should be discarded.

this from ZYX-GS manual:
(6)Select servo type and control mode. ZYX-GS supports 1520um/960um/760um standard servos and 1520um/960um/760um velocity servos(no potentiometer). ZYX-GS signal output frequency is very high, you should not use analog servo, and we recommend you use 333MHz digital servo.
I assume refresh rate is a critical parameter here. If the servo connected to the related channel is not up to responding accordingly then gets burned. I can understand a servo not being able to keep up, but burning should not be.

Anyway, it is a shame we have to dig up parameters like refresh rate from other sources is an other matter. I wish servo makers provide such info first hand.

I will modify an Align DS 510 servo continuous that supposedly operates on 200hz (or 333hz not sure) and test on ZYX-GS.

Thanks,
Ahmet

It is common to burn up a servo when set-up incorrectly.

Hi Aerial and happy new year everybody.
It is common to burn up a servo when set-up incorrectly.
(Analog / Digital / Frame Rate / Parameters / Endpoints)
Thanks.
All my gimbal servos are modified = continuous rotation.
I may have burnt the 1st servo by negligence (which I would have remembered) but I don't think it would be likely that I would miss to set the centering pulse to anything but 1520um (even at this age) and keep burning those buggers. I don't want to disclose the brand name but now I know why I personally should stay away from certain brands.

Anyway today I have modified 2 Align DS 510 servos (rated at 200hz at Ron Lund site) to continuous and mounted them to tilt and roll axis. I have played with them and they still work no problem. I struggle setting this ZYX and the gimbal is usable with 50% accuracy. I need to play with it more so that it is worth flying for basic photo (and maybe even some video).

I have learnt my lesson and I will only use hi refresh rate servos for gimbal stabilization.

I am also looking into getting a proper brushless gimbal such as BetView in the near future.

See you later,
Ahmet

Many years ago, I burned my gimbal analog continuous gimbal servos within 2 minutes as they were set for digital.

The key is to learn from our past mistakes.
