nope. My new Blu-ray plays my old DVD's just fine.
I've got it hooked up to my Wi-Fi so I can stream my Netflix with it...awesome.

I would recommend a ps3. They are cheaper now that the ps4's have come out. Probably the best all around BR player you will find. Not too mention it does everything else. I don't use mine to play games on....but it does everything else just great.

Samsung makes good blu ray players. DVDs look acceptable but you do get spoiled by blu ray.

I have two sonys. one BR and one BR-3D

They both have had sound issues in the past, and the ps3 from what ive read.

Mine crackles and popping on loud noises like canon fire that a normal dvd player would not make. Did a little reserch and it seems like a common complaint with ps3.

I even swapped out a new pioneer stereo trying to fix it to no avail.

Need to try another blueray player. Wont buy a Sony again.

I second the PS3 or 4 if you desire. I play very few games.
