Hyperion 720i Duo3 Channel 2 Not Charging to Full
I am having this issue that has recently appeared. Up until recently, my Hyperion has been flawless. Recently though I noticed on channel 2 (the right side), when I charge a lipo, it is not charging it completely. It charges it to about 75 percent and then shuts off saying charge complete.

I thought it may have been one of my older batteries causing the problem so I used one of my newer batteries with the same result. On a 3 cell I recently charged, it quite saying charging complete at about 75 percent (showing this on the display). I looked at the individual cells on the balance display and it showed 4.02 volts per cell.

I checked the battery itself with my multimeter (overall charge not individual cell charge) and it showed 12.2 volts (which is about 4.06 volts per cell so pretty consistent). So this confirms that it is not charging the batteries completely.

I have not had an issue (yet) on channel 1. I have the latest firmware on the charger (5.86) and this issue seemed to have occurred recently. My power supply I am using is a Meanwell RSP-1000-27, 27 volt DC 1000 watts. The battery I was charging are 3S 2250 mah and I was charging them at 3C.

Any thoughts as to what the problem may be and solutions? Will this need to be sent in for examination?

To add onto this, something I just noticed the other day. I had a 3S 5000 pack attached. The pack was down to 20 percent remaining (about 80 percent used). My charger was set to a 5000 mah capacity and charge rate of 15 amps (3C). I activated it for solo charge and it began. When I looked at the amps going into it, it showed 7 amps. This is only about 1.5C). I shut it off, checked the settings again, and it should have been pushing 15 amps initially. Started it up again and same thing, about 7 amps. I let it continue and it took about an hour to charge so yes, what it showed is what it was doing. When the charge was complete though, it showed the pack was only about 90 percent charged which I confirmed (as mentioned before) with a multimeter. When it shut off, it showed CHG END as it should. The TCS (or whatever, not in front of it at the moment) is set for 97 percent and continue. Also, I had to length the safety timer (which I usually had set for 40 minutes) to 120 minutes since it is charging so slowly.

Again power supply is Meanwell RSP-1000-27 so I am not running into a limitation of the power supply and I am only charging 1 battery on 1 channel, not using both channels.

One other thing, this issue is on BOTH channel 1 and 2

I'm stumped. I have two of these things, and both are set to TCS 100% and TVC to 0mv. I haven't ever seen either one stop a charge short of full (in the range of 4.19V/cell). I am not in a hurry to get packs back into the air, so I have the TCS set to 100.

One question, are you checking your balance and individual cell voltages during charge. I don't know all the electrics behind the operation, but my two have been really reliable for all my needs through 6S - 7700 packs. Again I don't charge at anywhere near 3C rates, more like your 1.5C but they always charge up. I am not running the latest firmware, as I haven't felt I needed anything above what is working for me, and it can really accurately balance charge a pack down to .002-.004 volts per cell.

You just might try to set the TCS to 100% and change the action from continue to stop and see what you get.

Try that and post back what happens.

I watch the individual cells and they are all within acceptable range both prior to charging, during charging, and after charging.

I have used this charger for a few years and have used it with 6S 5000 packs at 4C charge rates without a hitch. It is only recently that this issues has cropped up.

The TCS being set at 97 percent and continue means that when it reaches 97 percent charge it notifies you and being set to continue means that it continues to charge until it reaches 100 percent. When you set it to stop, it will stop at that value (which is why I don't set it to stop). The difference in flight time is non existent from 97 to 100 so if I am flying a lot of packs, then I pull them when it notifies me.

Also, since it is not even charging to 97 percent when it stops and says CHG END, increasing it won't improve the issue.

I wonder where Mr. Mel is, he usually has great insite

I just thought that maybe changing the inside software calculation, maybe it would clear what glitch you were having.Logo 700, Specter 700, Goblin 700, Trex 700DFC, Gaui X7, Logo 690SX, Logo 600SX; Trex 470 Trex 500
