Best DSLR camera/need advice
Hey guys,
I am getting ready to get a new camera. My kids are in alot of sports. I am sick of missing good shots , or they are blurry. Can someone recommend a nice dslr camera for under 500.00?.... I need something that is easy to use, nice picture quality, fast shutter speeds... etc...

Look up "Micro 4/3" (pronounced "Micro four thirds" ) mirrorless cameras.

In some cases, they may be better than DSLR.

But, the Micro 4/3 may not be the best camera if you shoot mostly sports.

Sir I don't know if a used DSLR might be in your consideration but I have a 3 or 4 year old Nikon D40X that I'm getting ready to put on Craigslist. It has two zoom len's and quite a bit of extra stuff. It works great but I'm getting lazy and point and shoots are more my style. I have the original box and lots of extra stuff. If it's something you are interested in I'll take some pictures. With both len's a couple of batteries and two or three memory cards and other stuff I would like to get about $400.00 for it. This is a really great camera and takes fantastic pictures. It has more features than I was ever able to master. I guess as I got older it was to much work to use than a point and shoot. Let me know if you are interested.

I'm biased toward Canon and would recommend the Canon T4i which meets all your needs and includes video. You can get it from the Canon refurb store right now for $575.99 with the 18-55mm lens... compared to a new one at Amazon for $929.00.

Is this a top professional quality.. no. But it will hold it's own against any other consumer dslr and exceed most.

http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/c...kit-refurbished

1 Year Full Canon Warranty On Refurb
18.0 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor
5.0 frames per second
Enhanced EOS Full HD Movie Mode
Vari-angle Touch Screen 3.0-inch Clear View LCD
RAW + JPEG Simultaneous Recording
9 AF Points

You can get an additional 20% off if you send Canon a broken camera... and it doesn't have to be sent before you get your new one. Any broken film or digital Canon camera is fine so spend $5.00 bucks for a busted one and save $115.00. And you get the same 20% off of a refurb lens if bought at the same time.

Cop: Sir, have you been drinking? Driver: Why? Is there a fat girl in my backseat?

I'm also biased towards Cannon. A T3i or T4i would suffice. The lens will make the largest difference.

For action shots with a zoom lens, start saving up your money now. The Cannon L series lenses produce nice clear images and you may be happy with something like the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens. You can find this lens at around $650-$700 new.

If you purchase it at a BestBuy or equivalent, check the return policy. You may have a few weeks to try the lens before returning it. Just don't break it

I'm currently using a Nikon D7100, and would have to recommend the Nikon cameras. Something from the D3000 and D5000 lines would fit your price range depending on which lens you paired with them. Check out BH Photo for buying guides and reviews...they're having some good sales this time of year as well.R.I.P. Roman

+1 on the Nikon d7100. Same sensor as the d5200 just a few more bells and whistles which may not be worth the extra $ to some.

Nikon just came out with the D5300. It's the only camera in their whole lineup with the EXPEED 4 image processor. This gives it the capability of 1080p 60fps video. It also has built-in WiFi and GPS. I'm looking at possibly upgrading to the D5300 from my current D5000 which I've been quite happy with.

Seems everyone giving suggestions that's exceeding your initial budget.
I'm partial to Nikon, but the problem with DSLR it's like Heli's the accessories and add on will be costly.
if you just want to get a DSLR but do not plan on additional lenses tipods filters flash or additional gear. go with a hybrid

Nikon COOLPIX P520

it's just under $500 click on the site to read the reviews in addition does HD Videos with 49x zoom and 18megaPix.
Don't let the megapixel sway you for a standard screen image even 4mp will do, I have the Nikon D5200 I shoot using 12mp, even though it's capable of 24, you really can't tell the difference, even at 6 it's pretty difficult to see on a 19" screen.

Sorry. Missed the $500 price line. The D3200 is a good little camera ($470). I bought one for the wife and she likes it much more than the one piece digital camera she had before it. It even outperforms my D5000!

Higher MP cameras are better if you tend to crop your pictures and/or print them larger than 4x6. Just for viewing on a computer screen, you can get away with a much lower MP shot.
