I believe Erickson owns all of the heavy lift Sikorsky sky cranes and has all the FFA type certificates. I think that they are all rental cranes.

Anybody else know something about helicopter logging? They had some about this on the cable TV shows.

A quick Youtube search of helicopter logging brings up a bunch of different helicopters logging...Most of which are not Sikorsky

??? amazing, you have never heard of Sikorsky? The father of modern helicopters... well a real pioneer anyway...

That is the name of the company that designed and manufactured the skycrane. Erickson bought the design and took over the repair and manufacturing of that type aircraft. There are not many in this world.

As heli guys, you should all read and know some of the history and evolution of the helicopter.

Along with a lot of the early history of the Wright Brothers at the college park airport, Mr. Berliner build one of the first helicopters.

no I did not imply that it was only Erickson. Never thought that, I watched Discovery TV and saw much smaller helis doing logging. (even mentioned that)

Erickson bought all the skycranes to do logging, but they also do firefighting and construction lifting with the skycranes. For a long time, Sikorski could not find a market for this type of helicopter.
