I was flying my E5 this morning and was basically practicing my tic tocs, funnels, and pretty much basic flying stuff. When I was doing some forward flips I heard a small cracking sound from my heli.
I then landed my heli and did I post inspection from top to bottom on my heli and found a small nicked in the middle on my main blades.
I was wondering if anyone have ever had similar issue with this main blades,or any blades in particular same as I had today. Any feedbacks or inputs would really be appreciated. I really like the rail blades a lot, just wondering if its safe to use or not at this moment. Thanks in advance.

I would not fly with that damage to the leading edge.

Did a part come off of the heli and go up into the blades? A screw or washer?

Nothing got loose or missing from my heli. However, I did a full minute hovering and forward flight before I landed and did my post inspection of the heli.
I assumed the noise was nothing until I landed and saw the small nicked.

Happened to me once and finally found a screw missing on my heli and that is what have gone through my blades. Check again I'm sure you will find something missing on your heli.

I double checked my heli already from the bench and Still found nothing loosed or missing. Out of all the years I've been flying helis, the only blade mishap I ever had was a boom strike.
Like I said before,I really like the rail blades and in my opinion, they are well suited for the E5.
I just want to make sure if I was the only person out there that had this situation happened besides anything coming loose,or missing screw parts.
I don't know if I heard from anyone out there that there is any recall on these main blades itself, but I just want to make sure of my safety and others around me before i fly and put another set of these main blades.
I will put another new set of rail blades 556 tomorrow and we'll see from there on.
I'm hoping nothing will happen and it was just a freak minor mishap for me and move on.
Again, thanks for all the feedback fellas.

Cheers,
Ray

Check ever bolt weather it be landing gear or drive train, it looks little big May check your motor mounts. Sorry for the mishap from my experience it was probably a bolt. Over 7 years or so of flying I've had this happen about 4 or five times. Usually in my case I forget lock tight on a bolt.

Yea i know what you mean...even though everything is in tact and nothing missing on my heli, it maybe be a small washer that I might of dropped and I missed to take it out and got stuck on the inner side frames and just maybe finally flew off during the forward flip I was doing.
It was just unfortunate mishap for me that to happen,But then again,it could of been alot worser and resulted in a major crash.
I think I'll settle the small mishap anytime over a crash..
Again, thanks fellas for all the good scenario feedbacks.

Ray, thats exactly what I was thinking. I thought that maybe a screw or something fell inside the heli. It might of gotten lodged somewhere and when you flew it it un-lodged itself.

Absolutely DO NOT fly the damaged blade. By looking at the photos, it is 100% caused by something hitting the leading edge. I have had this happen years ago with a very similar result.

Not safe at all to continue flying with that damage. It is no fault of the blades themselves, as this would have happened with any brand of blade.

I have had blades fail (many years ago by a brand that isn't really making blades any longer) and the type of failure you see looks very different and when it happens, it is catastrophic failure, not just at the leading edge.

Sorry it happened and as others said, look everywhere for missing hardware.

Did you check all your electronic components? They have screws in them too. i had a screw fall out of an ESC once and took me a long time to find it..

I guarantee it was something falling off the bird OR you ran into an armor plated Gnat... I have had this happen a few times, it is ALWAYS something missing someplace.. Could be as small as a setscrew too. Check your set screw that locks in the tail drive pin.. Check your pins that lock in the bevel gears.. Check EVERYTHING in the torque tube transmission..

Good luck, look hard, Personally, If I couldn't find the missing part, I would tear down the bird and completely rebuild it.. Might be the ONLY way to be sure and safe....

I own the same pair, great blades. Few options: if the retailer will let you send the pair back as a credit for a swap (like edge), try that. Or, if you have experience in carbon fiber repair, lightly sand it down a bit to indent/smooth it, inspect further, then use something like JB weld for a filler, light paint, then balance. To be on the safe side, stick with sport/basic movements on that set, no 3D.

@theviper. I did tear down the heli from top to bottom and actually I found the issue that caused the main blades to be nicked. Sad to say...It was the canopy quick release mount.

It appears that one of the ball bearing fell off in mid flight and caused that noise I heard.

This is the first time I ever experienced a canopy quick release mount ball bearing come off in mid flight and I don't think it will be my last.

My question now is, what are the best canopy quick release mount out there in the market that doesn't have ball bearing on the side to fall off

@dj80550. IMO I really think the 556 Rail Blades are well best suited for the Synergy E5. I've tried other brands of blades out there in market and again,IMO they are awesome for the E5!

Thanks fellas for the all input and knowledge everyone have given. Now I have one less to worry about knowing the issue was NOT the main blades.

Cheers,
Ray
