He hasn't managed to hover yet, he says they keep "getting loose" and flying over the barn into his pasture.

That's hilarious Wayne. I'm glad you're there to help him out.

I tell em it's the little boy in me, even tho I'm an 'old fart'.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

How, if at all, do you describe your passion/hobby to those who have no concept at all of radio controlled helicopters?
I tell them that it is my therapy. All I think about when I am flying is flying and nothing else matters at the moment.

and the blonde said "RECTUM, Hell damn near killed em!!"

Most of the older persons in my neighborhood knew me as the little boy that was always playing with those "toys"; both cars n rockets n planes and then finally helicopters since 1978. Some asked when I would grow up and stop playing with those "toys". They never really understood the magnitude and skill levels involved in RC helicopters until my friend and spiritual son met his demise @ the hands of his machine; the gone but never forgotten Roman Pirozek Jr. It's only after they saw me on the news did they get it. This Sport has been in me it seems forever and I tell them that every chance I get. Some folks party n some smoke n drink. I choose to fly helicopters. That is all.

I'm right there with you Eaton.
I've been hopelessly drawn to all things that fly since I was a boy.
Helicopters have taken the place of almost all of my vices.
It's my therapy, pass time, and my celebration of things that fly.
It's really hard to explain the depth of that statement to someone who hasn't experienced it themselves.

It's a very subtle thing. My neighbors are still asking me when I'm going to stop. I tell them the day you hear that I stopped you should immediately buy a black suit or visit me in the hospital because I either went blind or dropped dead. Lolol

Wifeorheli,
I show the vid of Colin Bell doing the demo for the X50 and then watch their jaw drop. Then I say yeah, I've got one of those. Lots of questions follow. Lol

As "nonexistent" as a "addiction" but as you put it just a hobby and then there is no need for any explanation beyond that......

Guess I'm just different.
Most folks I know or work with are deeply invested in the hobbies of drinking beer, barbecue burning, and watching sports. I'm always proud to go on about my toys that fly. Those who aren't interested are polite enough not to show it. Occasionally, they point out how expensive r/c helis are. I point out that one can get deep into the hobby for less than a Harley, a four-wheeler, or a bass boat. That ends that.
Bottom line, I'm proud of my hobby.

I guess you are!

Different strokes for different folks - keeps the world interesting.

I just don't want to talk about it to uninterested people, like I don't want someone to talk to me about knitting.

My friends and I talk about things we have in common...If they aren't in the hobby, there's no reason to mention it.

If asked,I reply.
If not...

I literally never use the word literally right.
