I have a scale heli with a Zenoah G26 that is not making enough
power it lifts off at around 1/2 stick but does not seem
to be making enough power after that to do anything else and in
fact seems to lose power and start to settle any suggestions on probable causes would be appreciated.

Tony.

what about the rest of the heli...blade size and count, drive ratio...governor type..etc.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Heli is too heavy
Alot of work load, and the engine is probably overheating.

We use 26cc for a 13lb heli, now you're using the same motor for double the weight. It will fly, but it will also tend to want to get hot. I know my friend Sandy with scale helis always had overheat issues with his 26 rc motor in the R22 fuse. Eventually he gave up and made it electric.

I have a BK117 the same size and weight same mechanics and motor
it flys great with no overheating at all.
I do not think it is an overheating problem, because we can not
get it to gain height it is not in the air long enough to
overheat.

Then
Please take the exhaust off and look at the cylinder and piston to examine its condition. It may have overheated in the past and got damaged at which point it won't have any more power at all after that.

Just another thought for you to check.

Or maybe the insert and ring are worn a bit and not making the compression it should.

All over the place!

What altitude are you flying at?
At higher altitudes the gas engines have a much harder time due to air density

Edit: Opps, just saw that someone is is flying close to you with same set up so air density is probably not an issue there.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!
