After drooling for several months, I finally ordered the new 450L from heli direct. Everybody who has one happy with there's? Patiently waiting for mine to arrive on Wednesday.

I like mine, I usually fly bigger heli's, But this thing I can fly at home and get a little practice when I can't bet to the field. Its pretty quick, so you have to stay on top of it all the time.
dkshema recommends the 3.1 over the 4. for the 3gx. 3.1 works great for me!

Give 4.0 a shot, if you have trouble with the heading hold gyro function, go to 3.1 till a newer version rolls out.

I got 3 flights on mine today. Loving it so far. I ditched the 3gx all together and put on a Spartan. Sounds like most work fine with 3gx 3.1 though.

I tried some edge 353 se blades today for one flight and surprisingly they were a little slower on cyclic compared to the align 360 blades. Collective felt the same to me.

I just got mine yesterday and pretty much got all the mechanical parts assembled in one evening. I haven't plugged the 3GX in to anything yet. This will be my first fbl heli other than mcpx but I think I've got a good understanding of what to do so it shouldn't be bad. I am planning to try 4.0 because I haven't heard anyone having problems with 4.0 on the dominator heli.

I am waiting on batteries for it still and have a 3550kv motor. I think I might try my 3s battery on it with this motor till the batteries get here. Running in 3s shouldn't hurt anything should it? The only difference I see between the 3s version and the 6s is the servos. I just remembered I don't think my 3s battery will balance the heli very well but I'll have to check on that.

I would definitely try the 3gx 4.0 since you have it. I tried it for many flights and was not happy with the tail performance at all. This is on a 450L with the headspeed screeming.

As far as using a 3S battery, it will not work. The motor that comes with the 6S version is 1800kv and the 3S version motor is 3200kv. The 3S version also comes with 325mm blades and the 6S version comes with 360mm blades.

Vanheli, I have a 3550kv motor from my trex 450se that I was going to drop in it till I get the 6s batteries. Wouldn't that work at least for a test flight or two or would the 3s batteries not work with the servos?

I'm not even going to bother with the 3gx. I've heard they're not very user friendly. I have a 7200bx I'll throw on there. So if anyone is looking for a 3gx I'll have one for sale.

The 3s battery should work fine with the 3500kv motor and so should the servos since the esc steps the voltage down to 5-6 volts. Dot quote me on that though.

yep. Like mentioned by nick you should be fine with that motor. I thought you were running the 1800kv motor. Still keep a close eye on esc temps because you are swinging the 360 blades. There is a reason the 3S kit comes with 325 blades.

Servos will be fine.

Nice work I want one too.

I have a 3D heli, I don't understand why it doesn't do 3D.

I just noticed the bullet connectors on the my motor are a little bigger so they won't plug into the speed controler. I don't think I'll mess with changing those and I don't have any that size so I guess I'll have to wait for the batteries but I am going to plug in the 3s battery and try to get the 3GX and servos set up.

Nick -- you have been greatly misinformed. The 3GX is exceptionally easy to install, set-up, and flies well. Much easier and much more straightforward than the BeastX and most other systems on the market at present. Futher, once installed and set-up, little additional tweaking is necessary.

Version 4.0 software did introduce some odd heading hold gyro performance for some (including me), but reports from people using it on the 450L all seem to be pretty darn good. It appears that the heading hold gyro performance may have been optimized for the 450L and other helis running very high head speeds.

Version 3.1 software is very good.

Once installed, any adjustments are generally limited to adjusting the aileron and elevator gain pots to eliminate cyclic oscillations, perhaps the collective pitch precompensation, and the torque precompensation.

Many installations just simply work fine, out of the box with stock parameters.

Once you understand the setup process and have the mechanical aspects of your heli properly setup, it takes about five minutes to complete the 3GX setup sequence.

The 450L does not come with the MR version, it comes with the 3GX controller.

In that case I may just have to give the 3gx a whirl.
